Breaksea House News

In the last Buzz I spoke about the excitement for the upcoming Year Twelve Ball and it truly was a wonderful night for all our young people. Each person beamed with happiness that the night had finally arrived, none of them had caught COVID, and they were able to celebrate despite all the uncertainty. One of the highlights of the night for me was seeing all the younger students come to the red carpet and support the Year Twelve students. We even saw some old faces with at least four of last year’s cohort coming back to say hello. There were some very proud parents on the night also.

The Year Twelve boarding jerseys have also arrived. The students are loving wearing these around boarding and to dinner. They look very smart and cosy too.

These last few weeks the students in Breaksea have been collecting donations for the Women’s Shelter in Albany, using the boxes that they decorated earlier in the term. Thank you to all those families who have sent in donations and a reminder that they can be sent to any of the four boarding houses up to the end of term.

With the new requirement to wear masks inside the boarding house, we have looked for many more opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Breaksea House received a spike ball game, which can be played out on our grass or on the undercover area. Much hilarity has ensued, and it has been a welcome addition. I thank each person for their support throughout all the changes and we have maintained high school attendance as a result.

With the winter sports beginning, there have been Summer sport grand finals, wind-ups, trials for netball, volleyball, hockey and footy and the students have been very excited to begin their next sports. Both Ava Smith and Tiffany Butterworth were in a basketball grand final and as the girls couldn’t attend in person, they sat in Breaksea as it was live-streamed to the lounge room.

Throughout the last few weeks, the leaders in the day school have been putting kindness and self-care suggestions into the Daily Notices. These have been shared with the students before school and they have been encouraged to find ways to surprise someone with kindness.

It’s been very encouraging to see many more of the students in Breaksea participating in various recreational activities on offer and serving our local community. There are so many amazing young people in Breaksea, with various strengths and we are looking to find ways to showcase these over the next term.

Happy Birthday to Brianna Harris who turned 16 this week.  We also send our best wishes to Rachel Henderson, Bethany Robertson and Faith Bin Omar who will all have birthdays in the school holidays.

May everyone enjoy their time with family and friends over the holidays celebrating Easter.

Please feel free to make contact at any time.
