Recreation News

Recreation has been going along swimmingly!  Friday afternoon beach visits have been very popular as the weather has been warm. This is a great way to end a busy week of school. We plan to continue Friday afternoon recreation in some way next term until the weather changes.  Ten pin bowling, golf and swimming at ALAC have all proved popular. The Skate Park is always well received, and the senior boarders also recently enjoyed lawn bowls.

Sometimes recreation is simply in and around the houses, the new spike ball games have also been a great source of entertainment in all houses and a way to get our boarders outside and active. The spike ball has been so popular it was taken along to Middleton Beach for recreation.  We have recently ordered giant chess pieces and will arrange to have some pavers laid next term to allow our students to spend time outdoors. We have many other outdoor games for boarders to use and to keep them busy and active outdoors. Over the weekend some Easter craft was offered to the Middle School boarders and they enjoyed this activity with Mrs Freeman.

There are some things we pop on that we think will be fabulous that we can not get the boarders to show interest in, the recent Lego display was one of those, we offered it for two weeks with no takers. This is where we appreciate your support in the background to encourage them to attend the recreation on offer. It is also okay for it to be something they are not interested in, and we move on. Keeping them busy is the main objective though, on both these occasions the Middle School boarders suggested and frequented an alternative recreation so the outcome of keeping them active and engaged was the same.

The red carpet for the Ball was popular as ever and the boarders enjoyed watching the ball goers enter the Ball.

The Keep Australia Beautiful Council (KAB) and Keep Albany Beautiful held a Clean Up Day at the foreshore which Vanessa attended with a bus full of our students.  Our amazing leaders stepped up to lead our boarders and attended this day and there was a great story with lovely photos in the Albany Advertiser to follow.  The KAB have since contacted Vanessa to ask if GSG boarding would like to ‘adopt a spot’ to keep litter free and this conversation will be had next term with our boarding leaders to see if they are interested in taking up this opportunity.

To complete the term we held an Easter Egg Hunt on Thursday evening. It was beautiful weather and the students all enjoyed the collecting and the eating the eggs.
