Principals Report

I have had the pleasure of catching up with Tim Lloyd, our former Deputy Principal, and the now new Principal, Gilgandra High School. Tim is travelling well but has expressed that he is missing the students, their families and staff from Guyra Central School. Janette Holmes, substantive Head Teacher Mathematics, Armidale Secondary College was successful, through an expression of interest process, in securing relieving Deputy Principal position for Term 2 and Term 3 2022. We welcome Ms. Holmes to our school and hope that she enjoys her time with us. During the school break period we were provided with a requisition number to commence the merit recruitment process for Guyra Central School's substantive Deputy Principal. The panel has been formed, as per NSW Department of Education requirements, and we are underway with this process. I will keep the community informed, when we have a result.

Congratulations again to our incoming P & C executive and welcome to your new positions. Congratulations to Mr Richard Post (President), Mr Robert Jackson (Vice President), Mrs Aimee Hutton (Secretary), Mrs Amanda Jackson (Treasurer) and Mrs Trudy Brown (Media Officer) on you 2022 positions, I look forward to working collaboratively during the year. Our P & C meet again on Tuesday 31st May, 6pm in the Primary Staff Room, our P & C would love to welcome new faces at their next meeting. Getting involved in the P & C  is a rewarding opportunity, linking our school and the community. We hope you can join us on Tuesday.

Viv White, CEO Big Picture Australia, was visiting the school again during Week 4, working with students, parents and our Advisory Teachers. Richard Post, our newly appointed Guyra Central School P & C President, met with Viv and had the opportunity to accompany her into the Big Picture Advisory classrooms. Please contact me if you wish to find out more about Big Picture Education curriculum at Guyra Central School.

It is my pleasure to announce that Dante Lloyd, a Big Picture Education Year 11 student, has been successful with his application into the  2022 Rural Youth Ambassador program. Dante's application was a collaboration with Aurora College and Guyra Central School. Dante joined 19 other students at the 2022 State-wide Rural Youth Ambassador program Orientation Forum on Sunday, 15th May through to Wednesday, 18th May in Sydney.

The beginning of Term 2 has been busy. On any given day our students have had the opportunity to enhance their learning opportunities and leave our school on the bus to experience rich, meaningful connections beyond the work that they do in the classroom.  Our Stage 3 Debating Teams visited Uralla Central School and Armidale City Public School participating and winning round 1 of the Premiers Debating Challenge.  Good Luck to both teams as they continue their journey in the Premiers Debating Challenge.

We are a relatively small school setting. It makes me very proud to acknowledge the wide range of achievements of our students, and their families, and I thank our hard-working staff for their efforts, going above and beyond to provide opportunities for a beautiful kids. Well done to all of our students who represent themselves and their families and our school community in all of their

Meet our Relieving Deputy Principal  Mrs Janette Holmes

My name is Janette Holmes and I am relieving as Deputy Principal at Guyra Central School. I have come here from Armidale Secondary College and I am very excited about working in a small school where I can get to know students and their families. I have already met many wonderful personalities at the school and I feel so welcomed by the community.

I grew up in Armidale, going to Armidale High School and studying at UNE. My first teaching appointment was at Guyra Central School, but it was only for a short time and I moved to Oxley High School in Tamworth. Since then I have taught across the state, working in Broken Hill, Quirindi, Uralla and Armidale.  I know that education can change lives, I have seen it for students in all these towns.

My husband and I have a small rural property in the region. We run Black Angus cattle and Merino sheep. Between farming and teaching I enjoy quieter pursuits, like cryptic crosswords and cooking. Lately I have been solving Wordles, Quordles and Nerdles. I am told I need to try a Phrazle, but just lately I have been too busy.

I am extremely proud of my family. I have adult children and six (soon to be eight) grandchildren. My grand-daughters enjoy school, gymnastics and soccer. You could see me on the side of a soccer field any Saturday.

I am enjoying my time at Guyra Central School and I look forward to meeting many more members of the community over the coming weeks.

Mrs Janette Holmes
