Laudato Si’ Week

Laudato Si' is an encyclical of Pope Francis published in May 2015. It focuses on care for the natural environment and all people, as well as broader questions of the relationship between God, humans, and the Earth. The encyclical's subtitle, “Care for Our Common Home”.

For those who are suffering from environmental injustice.

Lord hear our prayer

For those who do not have access to clean water.

Lord hear our prayer

For those who suffer health impacts from air pollution.

Lord hear our prayer

For the environmental racism that endangers and harms our Indigenous peoples.

Lord hear our prayer

For our oceans that are overwhelmed by plastic pollution.

Lord hear our prayer

For young people and future generations facing the fear of climate catastrophe.

Lord hear our prayer

Amen

Laudato Si' week is a global Catholic event that seeks to 'bring the human family together to protect our common home'. Pope Francis reminds us that 'living our vocation to be protectors of God's creation is essential to a life of virtue'.

This week Catholic Education Sandhurst launched a Sandhurst Laudato Si' Action Plan. This Action Plan will help schools within Sandhurst to bring the 7 Laudato Si' goals to fruition in the next 7 years. Alike other CES schools, we will be working to bring these goals to life at Sacred Heart School Corryong.

We already have many great things in the place at SHS to care for our environment which include; students collecting garden matter for our school compost, students participating in weekly Sustainability lessons where they care for our school gardens and learn about different plants and vegetables, as well as the collecting of food scraps, recycling and soft plastics that are responsibly recycled which Mrs Moffat organises and leads for our school.

Cross Country

Thank you to our parent volunteers, staff and families who were able to attend our school Cross Country last week. It was a fantastic event that all of our students positively and actively participated in. Next week will be the Zone Cross Country, being the next level in competition. Several of our students are going to attend the Zone event to represent Sacred Heart School including; Mac Brindley, Amy Costello, Neve Cresswell, Ava Dakin, James Yule, Declan Faithfull, Pippa Faithfull, Olivia Nagy, Ned O'Connor and Jax Johnstone. Congratulations to all of these students for qualifying and we wish you the best of luck at Zone!

Mother's Day Celebration 2.0

While our celebration is a little later than we hoped, we look forward to welcoming all of our SHS Mum's, aunties, carers and special people in the lives of our students to celebrate in prayer and morning tea this Tuesday the 31st of May. Please RSVP to admin@shcorryong.catholic.edu.au for catering purposes.

School Advisory Council and Parents and Friends

Thank you to both of our committee's who have held meetings in the recent weeks. You will see that our wonderful P and F have a wine fundraiser currently running to support our school community in donations. Please see the Parents and Friends Committee page for further details.

Parent Volunteers

We are very fortunate to have an incredibly supportive parent community at SHS who volunteer their time regularly.

As part of our compliance with Child Safe Standards, it is important that our volunteers have a current Working With Children Check. We have many of these on file already at school, with some lapsing throughout the 2022 school year.

If you wish to volunteer at SHS we will require that our volunteers have a valid Working With Children Check.

To get a WWCC you can visit www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.auto start the process of getting your Free Working With Children's Check. It's a simple process that only takes a short amount of time.

Once you have received your email confirmation with a barcode, you can present the barvost at any participating Australia Post along with your photo identification to complete the process.

Once you have received your WWCC card, please provide a copy to the school office so we can keep on file for any future volunteering opportunities.

Please contact Kasie on (02) 60761138 or via admin@shcorryong.catholic.edu.au if you need any support in attaining your WWCC.
