MEET BILLY THE THERAPY DOG

Meet Billy! Billy is an accredited Therapy Dog who works with school counsellor Emma McLachlan, Tuesday and Wednesday at our Eastern Campus. Billy has undergone intensive training to be suitable to work in a school setting, and he wears a special identification coat when at school.

Billy is extremely patient, affectionate and loyal. Billy loves getting pats and tummy rubs, other times he sits quietly in student wellbeing while Emma supports students. Research has shown that dogs are remarkable at lowering stress and anxiety levels, and improving mood. Billy has already been a great addition to student wellbeing providing comfort and joy to those that meet him. Billy looks forward to his days at Rowville Secondary College and the challenges that come his way.

INTRODUCING OUR FRENCH EXCHANGE STUDENT

Introducing Laura Klock our French Exchange Student in Year 10 who joined our RSA Basketball program in term 2. Recently Laura participated in an Amazing Race activity for international students hosted at the Melbourne Zoo. Laura said “The meeting of international students of Melbourne was a great experience - funny and interesting. After participating in activities, we listened to a gentleman talking about the benefits of studying abroad for students and families who welcome them. If you have the opportunity to study abroad or welcome a student do it!” We also interviewed Laura about her move to Rowville Secondary College.

1. What city/suburb are you from in France?

I’m from Chalon sur Saone in Burgundy (East Centre of France).

2.   What are you most excited about coming to Rowville Secondary College?

I’m excited about meeting new people every day - because we learn about a country because of the inhabitants of this one. I’m excited too about joining the basketball program and having the opportunity to use the equipment and gyms.

3.   How does school differ between here and back home?

First, the school hours are not the same - we start earlier (8am) and finish later (6pm) in France. Because of my basketball activity after school hours, I usually finish my day at 8pm. Moreover we don’t wear a uniform in my high school. The lunch time is much bigger than in Australia because we have a real meal in a self-service environment. Everyone eats at the same place in the same time on big tables. Unlike RSC, my high school is a single 3 floor building. The high school in France receives only 3 years: the seconds (16 years), the first (17 years) and the terminals (18 years).

YEAR 8 MEDIEVAL DAY

Year 8 experienced our first Medieval Day last week. The day was an interactive educational experience, where students were able to learn about weaponry and armour, sword fighting, crime and punishment, dancing, and heraldry. The students had a fun day, dressing in real armour and trying their hand at fighting a trained swordsman.

WHOLE SCHOOL ATHLETICS DAY

What a fantastic day we all had at our Whole School Athletics Day on Tuesday 1st May. It was brilliant to see so many students and teachers dressing up in their house colours and giving many events a go throughout the day. The three-legged races, tug of war, photo booth, banner painting were just some of the house activities that students got involved in as well as the traditional track and field events. The competition between houses was fierce but there could only be one winner which was…Blue House with 1,156 points. Congratulations to everyone on an amazing and memorable day. Read our great student feedback below.

House point totals:

  • 1st – Blue House – 1,156 points
  • 2nd – Yellow House – 1,102 points
  • 3rd – Red House – 1,023 points
  • 4th – Green House – 974 points
