Year 7 Humanities Excursion

Last week, Year 7 students embarked on two separate excursions to support their Geography projects for the Term. Year 7s have chosen specific Australian landscapes to try and protect from human and natural change.

Depending on the landscape type each student chose, they were sent on a different excursion.

One excursion saw students who were focusing on riverine and coastal landscapes travel to the Maribyrnong River and Williamstown Beach to gather fieldwork about how these landscapes are being impacted negatively by humans. Students also tried to see if there were any conservation strategies in place. It rained a little bit at Maribyrnong River but students had a great time playing in the sand at the beach, despite the cold!

The other set of students who are focusing on karst and mountainous landscapes set off to Hanging Rock and Mount Macedon. Unfortunately due to high winds the summit walk at Hanging Rock was closed, however students still got to get a feel for the place by walking around the base of the rock. We then travelled to Mount Macedon where students climbed to the summit – a true test of their resilience! The students were all very proud to make it to the top in the end.

Students will use their fieldwork in their projects to help them understand how landscapes can be negatively impacted by humans and the environment, and what can be done to protect them in the future.

All in all, it was a great excursion and a fun day out of the classroom!
