Year 5 News

We have had a very busy first half of term in Year Five. Please read below for a snapshot of our learning so far:

English – Lily, 5C:

In Reading, we have been working on predicting and connecting. We have been predicting what’s going to happen next in texts and using nonfiction text features to help us make predictions. We have been making connections with nonfiction texts too. We also do Purposeful Reading Activities, there are four groups and we do a different reading activity each day.

In Writing, we have been doing our diary entries. Everyone got a country to go to and we have been writing about the airport, how we got the tickets and plenty more. We can’t wait to share our published diaries with you.

Maths – Gurman, 5C:

In Math, we have been learning multiplication and division. We also tried a strategy used by Litea during a PBL – this strategy has really helped us with division problems using big numbers such as 104÷8. We have been trying a range of new strategies.

PBL and Health – Myla, 5C

In PBL we are learning about natural disasters. We have been learning about volcanic eruptions, floods, earth quakes, tsunamis, cyclones, droughts, hurricanes and tornados. We also did a marshmallow house to see if we could make it survive a disaster.

In health we are learning about Stress Management. We have answered questions about stress and anxiety, including school bullying, work not being done, family problems and listing small and large problems. We have also learnt how to deal with stress and anxiety by using skills and strategies.

Sport – Doganay, 5C

In 5C, we have learnt about Newcomb in P.E. We are developing our skills for passing, setting and communication. So far we are doing well and we are slowly getting better at Newcomb. We hope to impress our P.E teacher.

Year 6 News

In Grade Six, during PBL, we have been working on structures that have to withstand natural disasters such as earthquakes, global warming, volcano eruptions tsunamis etc. We have been bringing materials from home to use for our structures and have also been adding information on how our structure can withstand the natural disaster on a website called SWAY. We will be presenting our models to members from the SES and CFA. These people work with these projects and bring them to life making our country a better and safer place.
