The Chin-Up Project

Back in Term 2, eight boys from Years 7, 8 & 9 were

selected to take part in The Chin-Up Project.

The Chin-Up Project was a small group program that ran for 1 hour a week, for 9 weeks during the school curriculum. It is designed for young individuals in primary and secondary schools to challenge participants in examining their identities, and how these influence their relationship and decision making processes. Topics such as identity, violence, relationships, communication, decision making and resilience were addressed.

"Chin up was a program that took young teens to talk about all of their life experiences (good & bad), and we learnt that one bad chapter doesn't

mean the story is over. Some activities were brainstorming what it takes to be a man, who we are and how to get your emotions out and stuff like that. I enjoy the fact that we could really express ourselves with a more broad vocabulary."

"The program that I was in was Chin-Up, and the aim of the program was for us kids to change the way we think and do things. I learned from this program by making friends and things to help us in the future.

I learnt that sometimes you don't always have to be the tough one in your group/friends.

I learnt to always listen to your parents, and to always help them with what they are doing.

I enjoyed being with my friends and making new friends. I enjoyed playing around with them too."
