THE POWER OF… YET and a GROWTH MINDSET

WELCOME BACK for 2019!

In S35, we have started the year by learning about ‘The Power Of Yet’ and how to bring a positive mindset into our classroom expectations. We discussed that we found it easy to remember the negative things that happen to us but it was a little more challenging to remember the positive things that made us really happy and proud.

We completed a brain diary that taught us that the brain is a muscle and that if we continue to work on it and try new things it will continue to grow bigger!  We found that saying the word ‘yet’ when we couldn’t do something really helped us with working that extra bit harder to try different strategies to be able to achieve that goal.

• Coby:  I can’t do a detailed plan in writing… yet!
• Max: I am really bad at drawing and I can’t do it… yet!
• Kayley: I can’t read for a long period of time… yet!
• Isabella: Division is way too hard. I can’t do it… yet!
• Katison: I can’t tie up my shoelaces… yet!
• Chelsea: I don’t really understand what I read… yet!

Not only have we been changing our mindset, but we have also set SMART goals, set up our workshops and have begun showing leadership qualities transitioning into senior school.  We developed a mission statement that we are super proud of and we feel like it really tells a story about the amazing team we have in S35.  We’ll leave you with a little motto we like to remind ourselves to keep a positive mindset while at school and within our community:
