Plastic Free Boy Interview

What is your campaign and how is this campaign going?

PFB Answer: So my campaign is basically Plastic Free Boy. I’ve made a 22 minute documentary called “Plastic Alarm” about educating kids in schools, inspiring kids in many different ways! And how is it going, yeah, it’s going pretty good!

O.K. Turtle question time!

What made you want to start a turtle charity? Why did you choose the turtles?

PFB Answer: “It all started when I saw three sea turtles being released into the ocean. I asked my Mum why are these turtles out of the water and she said they ate plastic” So that’s where it all came from.

O.K. Then, What are you doing to help the turtles?

PFB Answer: So, with my film, I show it to kids and they get educated and they become aware. So they can also make a change.

What are you going to do with the money?

PFB Answer: So, with the money, when kids from the schools watch the film they do like a win-win kind of scenario where each kid pays 5 dollars, $250 goes to the school, $250 goes to the Plastic Free Boy campaign so we can buy things like recycling bins!

Did you think up the turtle charity by yourself or did something inspire you?

PFB Answer: Well, as I said before it all started when I saw two turtles being released into the ocean. I asked my Mum why are these turtles out of the water and she said they ate plastic. She helped me to set up my campaign to bring attention to the problem.

Will your turtle charity save all turtles or just a specific species?

PFB Answer: All Turtles and also life on Earth, really.

What school do you go to? Do they support your campaign?

PFB Answer: I go to Byron Bay Public School and no, they don’t support my campaign.

I see on your Vimeo videos that you visit schools. How many schools have you visited to share your message?

PFB Answer: So, I have visited probably more than 40 schools in Australia and 20 international schools.

Have you got any future plans to visit Melbourne with your message about stopping water pollution? (We’re a big city with lots of plastic straws!)

PFB Answer: With Melbourne, I’m going to be the youngest speaker at the 2019 Asian Pacific Cities Summit and the Melbourne mayor is going to be there and I am going to be in touch with him and maybe I could be presenting at Clifton Hill Primary School or more schools in Melbourne as well.

What is your hobby other than helping turtles and banning plastic?

PFB Answer: My other hobby is watching movies and stuff and also playing Basketball.

O.K. Is there anything that you can tell me that I may not know, (There is lots, just saying!), (No offence, me)

PFB Answer/s: Well my next cause of action is to go to the 2019 Asian Pacific Cities summit to address sustainability issues with major leaders which includes the mayors of Australia, to share my knowledge so they can provide sustainability solutions to their cities. The mayors look up to the future generation of kids and stuff. Kids today will inspire and educate future generations like us, then we can start to build solutions.

Do people know you as Plastic Free Boy or Arlian Ecker?

PFB Answer: Plastic Free Boy but I say in my blog, Instagram and FaceBook that I’m Arlian Ecker.
