School Council Message

School Council met on Wednesday 17th July as part of our regular meeting schedule.

Thank you to all the members of the community who have volunteered recently for School Council sub-committees. We are always looking for interested people and apologies if you haven't been contacted by a sub-committee member however you should hear from someone soon.  We are working on a lot of diverse projects, so please continue to put your hands up to help out!

We would like to thank Alida De Rooj Smith for her contributions to School Council this year.  Alida joined the Council at the beginning of the year but has needed to resigned from School Council and we are now in the process of filling this vacancy.

The Buildings and Grounds sub-committee has many projects that it is overseeing.  At the end of the term 2, Fair raised funds were used to commence the MPR upgrade works, with the installation of a dividing screen and an audio-visual upgrade.  We are in the process of investigating the installation of an auxiliary exit to the MPR, to improve entry and exit to this communal space.  All of these works will ensure that the utility of this space is maximised. Your efforts in fundraising for the school have enabled us to do these works.

The Prep Court yard development tender process closed on Friday 26th July.  We are working through the submissions and will keep you updated on this process in upcoming newsletters.  This is another example of how school fundraising is ensuring we can provide wonderful, accessible spaces for our community.

As part of the planning phase of the Sambell Lodge development, the School Council were required to participate in the preparation of an aspiration planning document for this project.  We provided input on the following design principals;

  • Learners and Learners at the Centre
  • Schools are Community Hubs
  • Diversity is Celebrated
  • A Welcoming Environment

This exercise assessed the way our school is currently planned and how the buildings fit within in the community. Students and staff have also been a part of this process.

Architect interviews have taken place with the Victorian Schools Building Authority and once an architect is appointed, the next stage is for a Master Plan of the school to be conducting.  Very exciting times for our school.

Don’t forget to buy tickets for the Bush Dance on 2 August (tonight!) and book a babysitter for 7 September to get ready for the Trivia Night. And make sure you have put your hand up to be involved in the fair coordination. We are still looking for volunteers to take on leadership positions.

Next month we will be tabling the Annual Report 2018.  This is a public meeting and any member of the school community is welcome to attend.

We look forward to keeping you up to date with our projects over the coming months.
