Around the Grounds

St Xavier's Athletics Carnival

After two failed attempts to run our Athletics Carnival (due to the weather), we finally managed to hold our Running Carnival on Wednesday. The decision was made to only do the running events. The field events (shot put, discus, long jump and high jump) have and continue to run at school.

There were plenty of fun activities and games on hand on Wednesday to entertain the students between running races and I think you will agree that that photos show what a great time the children had. It was sad not to have parent and family spectators in attendance (due to COVID restrictions).

Once all the results have been collated, we will have a 'Presentation Assembly" to announce our Champion Athletes and Champion Houses.  We will make the assembly available to parents to watch.

Diocesan Athletics

The Diocesan Athletics Carnival will be held on Friday 13 August in Tamworth.

An important point to note is that as the Diocesan Athletics Carnival is an inter-school event, in accordance with advice from CSNSW, it comes under community sport guidelines.  School-based sporting events, such as School Athletics carnivals, come under the Education banner of COVID guidelines and therefore restrictions vary. This change has generated some confusion.

As this event is classed as an inter-school event with schools from different local government areas the following advice applies:

  • One spectator per competitor. All Diocesan events will now be ticketed and competitors will be limited to two tickets, one for a competitor and one for a spectator. This is to ensure that one person per two square metres restriction is adhered to. More information regarding the ticketing system will become available closer to the event.
  • Tickets will be checked and recorded upon arrival at the event.
  • No ticket, no entry.
  • Spectators will be required to sit in a designated area and are encouraged to bring their own chair.
  • All spectators in attendance will be required to wear a mask, sign in using the Service NSW QR code and maintain social distancing.
  • Any family member that has travelled during the recent holiday period should ensure that they are aware of any NSW Health requirements when returning.
  • If unwell or showing any COVID like symptoms please do not attend.

At this stage we can continue to provide these opportunities for the students but it does come with new guidelines that we must adhere to. All sporting guidelines have always been and will continue to be guided by the NSW Health advice and could change at any time.

Year 5 Sport

Yr 5 have been practising their Volleyball skills. Victor and Ashtyn practised 'Setting’ which is a Volleyball technique where players push the ball upwards with their finger tips.
