LIBRARY NEWS

Early Bird Reading Club

Early Bird Reading Club has gained momentum this week. We have had many students popping in to read before school. We are open from 8.15am when the gates open.

Infants: students are welcome to come in before school and read to Mrs Madden or Mrs McCusker, our resident 'good listener' (see below). Each student will receive a sticker from Mrs Madden if they take a few minutes to read a book. We have had around 15 students every Infants morning reading. It is a sight to behold!

Primary: students choose to read a novel from a particular genre and work towards collecting a sticker for each genre read to put on their collector's card. They can read any time to receive a sticker at the end of the novel, not just in the library. However, the book must be borrowed from the library and the goal is to collect each type of genre sticker. Series 1 (available now) is pictured below. And they need to convince Mrs Madden they read the story! This is a great way to improve comprehension and oral story retelling.

Even if your child can't get to the library before school, please encourage them to come to the library at recess or lunch to find out what it is all about.

Mrs McCusker is in the building!...err.. Library

We welcome Mrs McCusker to our Infants Library. She is a very soft and squishy lady who is a very good listener. Students will be able to sit with her and read their book of choice to her. Mrs McCusker will be available during Early Bird Reading Club, at recess and lunch for our Infants students to read to, and she has already proven to be a very popular companion this past two weeks.

You will see in the photo that the students ensured Mrs McCusker had something to do while they were in class this morning.

Book Week is coming closer

Book Week this year, celebrated across Australia, will be in the week of August 21-27. In that week there will be celebrations at the school for students and Book Character Day.

Stay tuned!

To see this year's shortlisted books for the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA), please see this link. They are always great quality books and make a fabulous gift for a birthday. We have most of them at school as well and we will be looking at them more closely during the next few weeks.

Drum Lesson Opportunity - Primary Students

If we have any Year 3 - 6 students that are interested in learning to play the drums, Jarron McGrane from the Conservatorium of Music can offer drum lessons at school. Jarron already teaches guitar lessons at the Primary Campus.

If your child would be interested in drum lessons, you can contact Hannah Carterer (Acting Program Manager at the Tamworth Conservatorium on Music)

 HCarterer@thecon.com.au  or by phone on 6766 691.
