Student Services : Careers

Term 2 wrap up

Despite the challenges of recent weeks we have managed to have a very productive term 2 in the careers office.  Year 9 Morrisby reports have been distributed to students, and every student who completed the program has had a one-on-one session with an external careers practitioner.  Year 10 students were lucky to complete their work experience program just prior to our latest lockdown, and feedback was overwhelmingly positive.  Year 11 and 12 students have all revisited their career portfolio online, and completed career planning work.  Students from years 8-11 have completed their subject and course selection for 2022, and year 12 students are working on their transition from school plans/booklet.

It has been great to have all students back onsite and the careers space in student services has been extremely busy. Thanks for your patience in booking appointments at this peak time.

Next term the focus will turn to finalising any remaining subject/course selection issues and starting the work with Year 12s on bedding down their plans for 2022 and beyond.  Year 12s have some preparation work to do for this and the information is available via their Connect page on MYNH.

University Open Days 2021

Universities are generally running their Open Day events via online platforms again this year.  Many universities are also offering opportunities for prospective students to visit their campus, with a number of events occurring in the coming school holidays.  July-August is the best time to explore what universities have on offer and how they can support you in reaching your goals for the future.

I strongly encourage all Year 11 and 12 students to actively participate in university Open days and special events if they are considering tertiary study in the future.

Tertiary Information Service (TIS) for current Year 10 students

The TIS Year 10 Subject Selection Webinar Q&A will be held on Wednesday 23 June at 4pm.  We encourage Year 10 students and parents to join and discover more about selecting senior subjects and how the transition into their final years of study works, including:

  • Year 10 subject selection
  • Pre-requisites and selection requirements for higher education
  • Study options for Year 12
  • The 3 Ps of support

Please register your attendance here.  This session will be recorded and available at the TIS website: https://www.tis.org.au/webinars/

University of Melbourne events

Year 10 and 11 students are invited to attend a ‘Day at Melbourne’ to get a taste of the university experience.  Students will have the opportunity to attend lectures and interactive workshop sessions that will challenge them to think critically and gain insight into the broad areas of study available to them.  They will also have the chance to chat with university staff about studying at Melbourne, including information on courses, student societies and support services at a course and student services expo.  All students will also enjoy a tour of our beautiful Parkville campus.

Date: Thursday 8 July 2021  Time: Morning session: 10.00am – 2.00pm OR Afternoon session: 12.00pm – 4.00pm

Registration is essential and are limited. Due to COVID restrictions, only registered students can attend lectures.  One additional guest, such as a parent or adult guardian, will be allowed to attend the expo.  Register for the morning session  OR the afternoon session.
