Our Fortnight in Review

What a HUGE fortnight we have had!

Sports Star Academy (SSA) very kindly came out and ran two multi sports incursions for us during our after school program. During these sessions, professional tennis, soccer and footy coaches taught the children a range of sports skills through fun and engaging sporting games. We have received fantastic feedback from the students, and many have booked in for the Term 1 SSA Sports Program which is run through OSHC.

At BNPS OSHC we strongly believe that student voice and agency is an integral part of a high-quality program. We believe that students have the right to have a say about matters that affect them. This fortnight our students have been involved in all aspects of planning and orchestrating our Leadership Program including the ‘2019 OSHC Student Elections’. A range of leadership roles including a ‘Sustainability Representative’, ‘Head Chef’, ‘OSHC Junior Council Representative’, ‘Art’, ‘Sport’ and ‘Music’ Captains as well as a ‘Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group Member’ have been created to contribute to the notion of empowerment. Through our Student Leadership Programs, students are provided with opportunities for meaningful student participation including student voice and decision making.

Over the last fortnight, students in Year 3, 4, 5 & 6 have signed up for leadership positions. They have spent a lot of time preparing speeches and we have just started listening to them. ‘Formal’ voting will commence next week. We look forward to announcing our 2019 OSHC Leaders in the coming weeks!

What else has been popular at OSHC this fortnight?

  • Kinetic sand
  • The ‘Exploding Kittens’ card game
  • Bracelet making
  • Drawing

OSHC Sub Committee

We are looking for a few more fresh faces to join our OSHC Sub Committee.

We meet once a month to discuss our OSHC program.  Please email Kelly to express your interest.

Homework Club

Do you know that we offer Homework Club every afternoon where children have an opportunity to do their homework in a quite space away from all the noise.

We have an Educator who is available to help students during this time.  If you are interested in joining up, please email Kelly or speak with Kelly, Amanda or Tamara next time you come in.

Quality Improvement Plan

This fortnight we are looking at Quality Area 3 of the National Quality Standards, ‘The Physical Environment’, and are wanting to get your feedback on the way our environment is designed, equipped and organised.

  • Is it welcoming and inviting?
  • Do your children ever say we wish OSHC had…?
  • How can we improve the set up?

We would LOVE to hear your thoughts!!

Please Help!

We would love for you to continue to donate your cardboard rolls, cylinders and boxes for students to use for ONGOING construction and craft - NO toilet paper rolls please!

Please place your donations in our large ‘What will you Create’ box located between the two entry doors. A BIG thank you from the children in advance!

Quote of the Fortnight

“When little people are overwhelmed by big emotions, it’s our job to share our calm, not join their chaos.”  L.R, Knost.

Feedback

As always, we welcome feedback about any aspect of the program. Please feel free to come in and have a chat with Kelly, Tamara or Amanda, send us an email or leave a note in the Feedback box on the sign-in table.

We welcome your input!
