Principal's Report

It's hard to believe that we are half way through Term One already. There are two student-free days in the second half of the term, Monday 11 March (Labour Day) and Friday 15 March (Curriculum Day).

Our Outside School Hours Care Program will be operating on 15 March to assist our working parents. Please email:

oshc@beaumarisnorthps.vic.edu.au to secure a place.

Our 2019 Junior Council

I would like to congratulate our 2019 Year 3 - 6 Junior Council Representatives (featured on page 3 of this newsletter), who were elected by the students in their year level.

The Junior Council is an opportunity for students to grow both personally and socially. It promotes socially responsible attitudes and encourages thoughtful and appropriate action. The Junior Council is responsible for:

  • Managing school Social Service collections for charity.
  • Representing the school student body in decision making matters.
  • Conducting whole school activities to support fundraising.
  • Reporting back to children in their year level on a regular basis.
  • Raising student concerns at meetings and finding solutions.
  • Reflecting on their action.

I look forward to supporting the many events and activities that the Junior Council will organise for the whole school throughout the year.

House Swimming Carnival

I would sincerely like to thank Kirsty Hall (Sport Coordinator) for the outstanding planning and preparation in the organisation of our House Swimming Carnival which was held last week.

An event such as this requires a huge commitment from all staff, not just those that go to pool. From putting pins in ribbons to set up and pack up, it was a great team effort as always.

Congratulations to all students for 'having a go' and demonstrating such great sportsmanship on the day. Moira, Robyn and I always enjoy presenting students with their ribbons and witnessing the many proud smiles. 50m is a long way and is a wonderful achievement, ribbon or no ribbon.

Thank you also to the many parents who came along to support our students. I think you will all agree that there was amazing House spirit on the day.

A full report and more photos are included on the 'Sports News' page of this newsletter.

The PYP Journey

The PYP journey commences right from the outset at BNPS and it's wonderful to see the Preps taking great delight in placing their photo on the 'Action Board' when they have demonstrated a particular Learner Profile Attribute.

In response to the challenges and opportunities found in our rapidly changing complex world, and in line with movements in global education to develop lifelong learners, a future-focused PYP has evolved. You will see a few changes to the programme over the next few years. One change we have recently introduced is the move to focus on the PYP Learner Profile as a whole school each month.

The Learner Profile Focus for March is 'Principled' which might be challenging for the Preps given that they have only just got their heads around the word 'Principal'!

Year Six students will celebrate their final year in an IB (International Baccalaureate) PYP (Primary Years Programme) school by presenting the Primary Years Programme Exhibition on Wednesday 24 July. This significant event is the culmination of their experiences throughout Primary School and provides them with the opportunity to combine the essential elements of the PYP and also display the attributes of the IB Learner Profile. The whole school community will be invited to view the Exhibition.

Early Morning Maths

Early Morning Maths commenced this week for students in Year 4, 5 & 6. I would like to thank staff for providing this additional tutoring and encourage all Year 4 - 6 students to attend (8.30am on Wednesdays) regardless of their ability.

Students are expected to take responsibility for their learning and actively pursue strategies to assist their progress or further their understandings of a concept.

School Council

The School Council ballot closes at 4pm on Tuesday 5 March and parents are reminded that no campaign literature supporting candidates or groups of candidates may be distributed or posted in the school and no school resources whether human or material may be used to support particular candidates.

Our AGM will be held on Wednesday 20 March 2019. At this meeting our School Council members will take on various School Council and Sub-committee roles which will be announced in due course.

Assembly Protocols

The Australian National Anthem is an important national symbol of Australia and should be treated with respect and dignity. As a sign of respect, everyone in attendance at our Assemblies is expected to stand and remove their hats when the Anthem is being played. We also encourage everyone to sing both verses.

Please give your full attention to our speakers and kindly ensure that pre-schoolers, toddlers, babies and dogs do not disrupt proceedings. Mobile phones should also be switched to silent.

Looking Ahead...

The School Run4Fun Colour Explosion to be held on Thursday 14 March at 2.30pm promises to be a fun event for our students and I thank our Parents & Friends for organising this whole-school event.

Thank you in advance for supporting your child in their fundraising endeavours. More information can be found on the 'General News & Reminders' page of this newsletter.
