Principal News

Thank you and Merry Christmas

As we head into the final days on 2019, I wish to thank you for a fun filled year of Cranbourne South adventures and excitement.

We are so very proud of everything we achieve.  There is no doubt, we share the same passion in ensuring our children are happy, healthy, safe, resilient, thriving individuals.

Everyday we work hard to get it right.  I am passionate in that we 'get it right' 95% of the time.  Why not 100%?  Because we work with 'little humans'.  With little humans comes successes, challenges, triumphs and tribulations.  I never apologise for how much we care for your kids.

So when you say farewell at the end of the year, please share with me in celebrating the 95%.  Say thank you.  Smile.  Give a cuddle.

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas celebrating all the 95% achievements in your life.

Student Leaders

Announcements Friday 13th Dec

Over the past few weeks, 2019 Year 5 students have been busily preparing and presenting leadership speeches for 2020.  The level of the speeches was impressive to say the least.

As you can imagine, there will be students extremely excited and proud of their achievements and some disappointments (as there is only a finite number of positions).

I thank all students for “having a go” and for confidently presenting ideas with such positivity, persistence, pride and passion.

Christmas warning

Button batteries

With Christmas fast approaching and new toys to enjoy here is an important reminder on the dangers of Button Batteries.

If buying a toy, household device or novelty item, look for products that do not run on button batteries. If you do buy button battery operated products look for ones where the battery compartment requires a tool or dual simultaneous movement to open. This will make it difficult for a young child to access the battery.

Button batteries are a severe injury risk for children. Every week, young children present to an emergency department following exposure to button batteries.

If swallowed, coin-sized button batteries can lodge in a child’s oesophagus. An electrical current is immediately triggered by saliva, which causes a chemical reaction that can cause severe burns to the child’s oesophagus and internal organs such as vital arteries, lungs, heart, larynx and spine. This can take only a few hours, resulting in serious injury or death.

Please stay safe over Christmas.  For more information please see the following link https://www.productsafety.gov.au/products/electronics-technology/button-batteries

Child Safe Standards

Standard 7: Strategies to promote child participation and empowerment

TERM 4 STUDENT WORKSHOPS

Having a network of people that you trust is an essential component of child safe. During Term 4 students have participated in a child safe workshop designed to encourage them to think about who should be included in their network of trusted people. These workshops will be led by our school social worker and implemented across all levels of the school.

The slides below demonstrate the focus of the workshops.  Students are asked to identify 5 trusted people and think about how they might share a worry or concern that may be on their mind.
