The Resilience Project - Parent Information Night
On Monday, 29 October, guest speaker, Hugh Van Cuylenburg from the Resilience Project will be speaking to parents at East Doncaster Secondary College. Hugh has been working in education for over 13 years, teaching both primary and secondary students. After volunteering at a school in the Himalayas in India, Hugh witnessed the resilience within the students attending these underprivileged schools. Shortly after returning to Australia, ‘The Resilience Project’ was born. Having completed his post-graduate studies, specialising in resilience and wellbeing, Hugh has developed and facilitated programs for over 500 schools in Australia. Curriculum Day and Alternative Program Day
Friday, 2 November is a student free day. Teachers will be attending a Curriculum Day at school with a particular emphasis on planning for Critical and Creative Thinking Curriculum and Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships Curriculum.
Monday, 5 November; as historically, a small number of students attend; classes will be combined and an Alternative Program will be offered.

Spring Music Concert
DSC Uniform Information
As the end of term approaches, I thought it timely to remind parents and students about some of our uniform policies.
- Students are permitted to wear either their Winter or Summer uniform for the last 2 weeks of term 3 (10/9 – 21/9) AND the first 2 weeks of term 4 (8/10-19/10)
- Correct summer uniform is compulsory from October 22nd
- Also, a reminder that students are only permitted to wear sports uniform on the days they have PE.
- Students playing sport at lunchtime or involved in try outs are not permitted to wear PE uniform for the day, instead they must change into their correct uniform for classes.

2018 Year Book Cornucopia Payment Required
The School’s Yearbook Cornucopia will be distributed in term 4. To ensure you receive a copy, you will need to make a payment of $25.00 through Compass Online or at the College main office, by Friday, 19 October.

USA Space Camp and STEM Tour 2019 - Information Evening
An information evening will be held on Thursday, 1 November at 6:30 pm in the Presentation and Performance Centre for students and parents who are interested in receiving more information about the camp to the USA with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
The proposed date of the camp is Saturday, 14 – Thursday, 26 September, 2019. The itinerary includes Space Camp in Huntsville (Alabama), Washington DC and Orlando (Florida).
Highlights of the tour include, but are not limited to visits to:
- Birmingham Civil Rights Institute
- US Capitol Building Tour
- Monuments by Night
- Smithsonian Museums Air & Space, Natural History & Udvar Hazy
- Kennedy Space Centre
- Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure
- iFly experience
- Everglades airboats experience
The estimated cost of this camp is $7500 per student and includes all flights, all transportation, accommodation, daily breakfast and ESTA visa. At this stage, this is an approximate cost, based on 25 students attending, subject to some changes. Final costs will be available when final numbers are confirmed.
