Take a little time to talk with your child/ren about our two focus areas for the week. They will be happy to explain what these might look and sound like at school. 

 

Weekly Classroom Focus

Sanitise hands on arrival to school, before eating and before entering the classroom after breaks.

 

Weekly Non-Classroom Focus

Play games appropriate to playground areas and use playground equipment safely and responsibly.

Christmas Story Art Competition and Exhibition 2020

The Christmas Story Art Competition and Exhibition opening and awards night will be a virtual event and will be premiered on YouTube from 7.00pm this evening, Wednesday 14 October.

Congratulations to the six finalists that have been selected from St Joseph’s: Neve D, Kiara M and Neala C from Year 6 and Emily B, Kealen J, and Leila V from Year 5. Certificates for successful students will be delivered to schools over the coming week for all student artists.

 

The student artworks will be exhibited at the Wollongong Art Gallery until the end of November.

St Joseph’s Book Week Celebration 2020

Each year across Australia, The Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) brings children and books together celebrating ‘Children’s Book Week’. During this time, schools, libraries, booksellers, authors, illustrators and children celebrate Australian children's literature.

 

The theme for this year is ‘CURIOUS CREATURES, WILD MINDS’

 

BOOK WEEK PARADE - WEDNESDAY 21 OCTOBER

Students are invited to dress up as their favourite book character and join in the MODIFIED GRAND BOOK WEEK PARADE. Our Modified Book Week Parade will be live-streamed to classrooms. All parents and friends will be invited to view an edited video which will be put together and shared via Compass, Newsletter and Facebook in Week 3.

 

BOOK WEEK COMPETITIONS

PLEASE NOTE - All entries must be submitted by MONDAY 19 OCTOBER (Term 4, WEEK 2)

COMPETITION WINNERS ANNOUNCED - THURSDAY 22 OCTOBER

 

Diorama Competition (Open to ALL students K-6)

Students are invited to create a 3D diorama based on CURIOUS CREATURES, WILD MINDS. This diorama could depict a favourite scene or be based on a character from a story.

 

Colouring Competition (K-2 students ONLY)

Students in K-2 are invited to participate in this year's ‘CURIOUS CREATURES, WILD MINDS’ colouring competition. Colouring sheets will be distributed this week.  

                                                        

Book Trailer Competition (Yrs 3-6 students ONLY)

Students in Yrs 3-6 are invited to participate in this year’s ‘Book Trailer’ competition. Students are asked to create a book trailer to advertise one of their favourite books. Trailers should showcase a book they enjoy.  Students could act out scenes, draw their own images or use images from the book. Students can use audio: voice and music. Be creative!

 

1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners for each competition will be announced on Thursday 22 October.

 

Please note that students will be judged and awarded prizes across the stage.

SJB Virtual Book Fair with Collins


School Photos - Wednesday 28 October 2020

 

School Photo Day will be held on Wednesday 28 October 2020.  All students are to wear FULL SCHOOL SUMMER UNIFORM.  Group and portrait photographs can be purchased by clicking the button below.

 

Important Information:

  • All school photos are to be purchased online.  (CODE:  LY9LKXN18 - closes 28/10/2020)
  • Sibling Photos (CODE:  LY9LKXN18 - closes 28/10/2020)Sibling photographs must be ordered online prior to the day of photography.  A photograph will not be taken without an order. Sibling photographs only apply to children enrolled at the school. 
  • Late fees/additional charges (after 4 November 2020)a late fee of $15 will be apply.
  • Photos will be returned to your school for distribution approximately six weeks after photos are taken.

School Bus Travel - Year 2 (Year 3 2021)

 

Applications for student travel in 2021 opened on Monday 12 October 2021.

 

Students progressing to Year 3 no longer need to re-apply if they:

  • are continuing at the same school
  • are residing at the same address
  • have not been sent an expiry notification from Transport for NSW.

Where a student meets the new distance eligibility, the system will automatically update their entitlement.  If they do not meet the new eligibility, they will receive an expiry notification via email.

 

Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition which is due to expire will receive a notification advising them to re-apply.

 

Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply.

 

If students need to update their information or re-apply please click on the button below:

 

 

Applications need to be submitted before 31 December 2020 to ensure student entitlements are updated and their current entitlement/card is not cancelled.  If their application is submitted after 31 December 2019, the system will automatically cancel an entitlement/card and a new one will need to be issued.

 

Students in the Opal network applying for an SSTS or Term Bus Pass entitlement for the first time will receive their card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out from January 2020.

 

Students residing in Rural and Regional (R&R) areas should receive their travel pass at the commencement of the new school year from their nominated operator, this may be distributed via the school or sent directly to their address. Note: some R&R operators do not issue travel passes. Students/Parents should confirm with their nominated operator if they do not receive a pass.
