SCHOOL COUNCIL

Report from May School Council Meeting

Dear Parents,

My name is Kiran Bhagat, father to Zac (2M) and Kai (Prep T). I have recently joined the School Council and I serve on 2 subcommittees – Education and  Community & Engagement. MPS is, and will be, such an important part of my life over the next several years.

It is important to me to be involved and help make decisions which can shape the future of the school. We, at the School Council, are always open to ideas and involvement from parents, so feel free to reach out to me or other members in school council if you see us at school.

Update on School Council meeting – May 2018.

At the council meeting last week, which was also the AGM, Lynne shared the 2017 Annual Report and the subcommittees summarised the achievements of the year gone by. We acknowledged Claire Eason’s contribution to the school council and wish her well on her upcoming maternity leave. We welcome Hannah Vesikko to the council who will replace Claire.

The council is involved in quite a few initiatives Compass, Qkr and QikKids to name a few. We are all very excited by the roll out of Compass which I’m sure by now you have all heard about. Compass is a new communication tool and as per the roadmap for 2018 it will eventually allow you to access meaningful information about our school and your child’s progress including student reports. So please ensure you have your logins for Compass (coming this week).

Another initiative to roll out soon is Murrumbeena's Out of School Hours Care (OSHC)  new and improved software management system from July! OSHC is currently moving over to a product called QikKids, offered by company QK Technologies. QikKids will enable parents to sign in and out of the service using tablets, to pay fees online and book before and after school care casual places online. These features are in addition to the software providing the service's interface with the Australian Government's new IT system, the Child Care Subsidy System.  You may be aware that the government is replacing the Child Care Benefit and Rebate with one program, the Child Care Subsidy, at the end of this financial year. The government is rolling out the new IT system as part of the new subsidy program. QikKids is well placed to help Murrumbeena transition to the new program and system.

IMPORTANT: As a reminder to parents to get ready for the new Child Care Subsidy, please log on to your myGov account and complete the online assessment ASAP.

Fund Raising - We have a few social and fundraising events in the coming months so watch this space. We encourage all families to get involved and support the school. These exciting social event dates are in every newsletter so ensure it is in your diaries, so you don’t miss out. As always volunteers are much appreciated to help support these fundraisers, so as many hands the easier to get the job done.

As mentioned in the last newsletter the council is calling all parents who are architects, landscapers or builders who are able to offer their expertise to the school. Please call the school office if you would like to help!
