The Em Effect

Brenton Smith, a former Ringwood Secondary College student, is the founder of

The Em Effect, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to raising awareness for and helping to contribute to accelerating the research aimed at improving both the treatment options available, and the lives of patients living with blood cancer, in particular lymphoma, Australia’s number 1 blood cancer.

About The Em Effect

Brenton founded The Em Effect in honour of his late wife Emily Smith (née Walker), a fit, healthy 29-year-old woman who was also a former Ringwood Secondary College student, who very sadly passed away in August last year following a hard-fought battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Through The Em Effect Brenton intends to keep Emily’s legacy as a beacon of love, strength, and hope for people battling blood cancers.

Lymphoma Awareness Month and The Em Effect 4x4x48 Challenge

September is Lymphoma Awareness month, with last Tuesday 15th September 2020 being World Lymphoma Awareness Day.

To help put Lymphoma in the limelight this September, a group of Ex Ringwood Secondary College students will be running The Em Effect 4x4x48 Challenge for Lymphoma on 18th to 20th September, raising money for Lymphoma Australia.

The 4x4x48 challenge involves running four miles every four hours, for 48 hours. The 4x4x48 Challenge was inspired by retired Navy Seal and ultra-endurance athlete David Goggins. Not unlike the challenge faced by over 6000 Australian’s diagnosed with lymphoma each year.

How can Ringwood Secondary College help?

All funds raised by the challenge will be donated to Lymphoma Australia, enabling them to continue to fund Lymphoma Care Support Nurses, help patients understand their treatment path and provide critical support to Lymphoma patients and their families.

If you would like to find out more or donate.
