From the Principal's Desk

Janine Kinninment

We had a wonderful day recently with Crazy Hair Day. Thank you to our families for supporting this P&C fundraiser. The imagination of the hairstyles was amazing to see. The sum of $646 was raised.

It was fabulous to see so many adults at our Open Class in Rooms 16a, 16b and 17. The Pre-primary and Year 1 children certainly enjoyed showing their parents/guardians their learning. It was lovely to speak with a number of our parents/guardians on their thoughts about the change of school processes due to COVID-19. Thank you also to the adults as they observed the 1.5m physical distancing practices.

Our next Open Classroom will be for some of the Year 3 classrooms. There has been a slight change of schedule due to unforeseen circumstances. Rooms 23 and 28 will have Open Classrooms on Friday 11th September as planned. Rooms 24, 25 and 26 will have a change of date as Mrs Earnshaw, Miss Chung and Mr Gardin are being trained as moderators for writing on this day. Room 24, 25 and 26 will have their Open Classroom on Friday 25th September (with Rooms 2,5,6 and 7).

Our BYOD committee are meeting early next week. If you are yet to do so, please take the opportunity to provide feedback to Mr Bradshaw by tomorrow, Friday 4th September. This feedback will be considered by the committee as they deliberate about a recommendation to the School Board in regard to the commencement of BYOD in 2021 with Year 4 students.

Our next parent/guardian classroom visit on how to use iPads effectively is being held in Rooms 5, 12, 23, 25, and 26 on Monday 7th September. I encourage parents/guardians to attend these lessons as they provide an opportunity to see first hand what their child and the teacher are learning using iPads with our Winthrop Australia Coach.

Hon. Kate Doust MLC, Member for the South Metropolitan Region, visited Burrendah Primary School yesterday. The Year 5 students in Rooms 5 and 6 had the opportunity to ask a number of questions. Our esteemed visitor was very impressed with the high quality of questions the students posed.

We will be having our first student assembly tomorrow morning. This assembly is for students only as we discuss with the children how these students' only assemblies will operate in Term 4.

We are continuing to have Willetton Senior High School students attend our school as part of their work experience. Both schools are very fortunate to be able to share this wonderful opportunity.

Our Faction Carnivals are being held in two weeks and we look forward to our parents/guardians attending. With Phase 4 still in place, it is important that all adults follow the 1.5m physical distancing restriction at these events.

We have a new sign-in/out device at Reception. Office staff will be on hand to train students, parents/guardians, and visitors on how to use this device.
