Performing Arts

The last two weeks have been filled with lots of dancing, acting and music in Performing Arts. The Foundation students had their first lesson this week. We danced to lots of different songs and even managed to trick Mr Flanagan into thinking we were all asleep.

We have some budding actors here at St James!

The Year 1 & 2 students began to learn about body percussion, how we can make different sounds using our bodies. The Year 2 students have created their own body percussion songs which I can’t wait to see them perform next week.

We completed scene studies with the Year 3/4 and 5 students. We focused on developing different characters and performing scenes from various musicals including Annie, Beauty & the Beast, Matilda and Mary Poppins. The 3/4s played a mixture of percussion instruments too, practicing different beats and tempos and experimenting with the sounds.

The Year 6s began planning their music videos which they will begin filming next week. I can’t wait to see what they create!

Some EXCITING information…

In weeks 8 & 9 the students will partake in an African Drumming workshop during their scheduled Performing Arts time. The sessions will include a mixture of West African drumming, singing and dancing. We can’t wait to share our experiences with you!

Warm regards,
