Dr Seuss Day

The Year 1/2/3’s celebrated Dr Seuss Day on Wednesday March the 2nd.

Theodor Seuss Geisel (1904-1991) was an American children's author, political cartoonist, illustrator, poet, animator, and filmmaker. He is known for his work writing and illustrating more than 60 books under the pen name Dr. Seuss. His work includes many of the most popular children's books of all time, selling over 600 million copies and being translated into more than 20 languages by the time of his death. He published his first children's book 'And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street' in 1937. During WW2 he was a political cartoonist and then Geisel returned to writing children's books, writing classics like 'If I Ran the Zoo' (1950), 'Horton Hears a Who!' (1955), 'The Cat in the Hat' (1957), 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas!' (1957), 'Green Eggs and Ham' (1960), 'One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish' (1960), 'The Sneetches' (1961), 'The Lorax' (1971), 'The Butter Battle Book' (1981), and 'Oh, the Places You'll Go' (1990).

The love of Dr Suess’s characters and rhymes is timeless and I’m sure we’ve all enjoyed the challenge of reading his books or watching the movies.

Sensational Senses!

In F/1 Science we have been exploring our senses. We played a game of 'mystery object' and students were chosen to sit up the front, close their eyes and use one of their senses to describe to the class what the object sounded like, smelled like or felt like. The last person opened their eyes and used their sight to describe the object and then we all had a guess at what it was.

We have also been learning about living things, and the differences between pets and people. Today we explored what pets eat and what people eat. We discovered that some of our pets have a very good diet and eat lots of leftovers... even pizza and spaghetti!

Wimmera Year 6 Leadership Day

On Wednesday the 23rd of February 2022, the year 6 leaders went to Horsham. We met this man named Lorin Nicholson, he has this condition called (RP) Retinitis Pigmentosa which is a form of tunnel vision. Lorin can only see 6% of his vision. He has had to adjust life to cope with it. We played these different vision impairment games,  like with a partner we would hold their elbow so they would know where to go like up, down, left or right.

We also played Lord of the Rings which is where with a partner, someone would wear these glasses, and you could hardly see. You then had to thread beads on string while you had the glasses on. It was very hard, but our partner helped us. On the way home we got KFC which officially is the best thing in the world, lol.

This day was the best we learn a lot of new things. The saying here is NEVER GIVE UP. Who cares if people say you can’t do it, remember, keep trying.
