Parent/Teacher Catch Up

Hi everyone, I’m really pleased with how 2022 is shaping up at Edenhope College. We’ve been face to face which is a real bonus and the students are a lot happier. Over the next two weeks parents can expect a phone call home from home group and classroom teachers. This is to communicate home how students are travelling, but also to see how ‘you’ see your child going as well. The reason for the call now is we’ve pushed our regular face to face Parent/Teacher evening out until Wednesday 27th of April (Term 2 – Week 1, 4.30pm – 7pm).

Staffing

Staffing movements have been very positive and to add to that I’d like to welcome Fiona Mulraney to our team. She is starting with us in the last week of March and will be a great addition to our Educational Support Staff who work in many areas throughout the school, assisting students. Fiona has worked locally at the hospital since 1991 and we are really excited to have her on board.

Edenhope College School Council Elections Parents Needed

Nominate Now!

It is that time of year again parents and we are looking for 4 nominations in the ‘parent’ category. We have two meetings a term and they generally take 1.5 hours in total, that’s 12 hours over the whole year.

Make a difference at your child’s school, become involved,  your time given is an investment in them. They will grow up and be gone before you know it.

At Edenhope College it is a vibrant learning environment and we want parent involvement to keep the positive momentum going.

For a nomination form, check your Xuno email or you can get one off our Facebook page or from the front office at the school.

Election nominations have been open from Wednesday 23/2 and are open to receive nominations until Wednesday 16/3.

Curriculum and Student Engagement/Wellbeing

Project Halo

Edenhope College is very excited to announce that 10 families will receive a year’s supply of free internet supplied by Elon Musk’s company Starlight. This was made possible initially by Edenhope College’s IT technician Varlin Duncan, who originally put together the cluster entry for the $100,000 Starlight Company Free Internet competition. He designed and edited our short film that won the entry. Since then Balmoral principal Jo Amott has coordinated communications with the company up until it was announced our entry (Edenhope/Balmoral and Goroke Colleges), had won. Thanks also goes to Chad Frost and Lisa Oliver for their help along the journey.

What it means to Edenhope College is that we are able to pass 10 satellite dishes to students (and one staff member), who are in low service areas and greatly improve their internet capabilities. We were able to target the families by looking at who were most affected by our last two years of on/off again remote learning, - due to Covid. Students and families who were selected were extremely excited when we contacted them to advise of the competition outcome.

Senior School Camp

Edenhope, Balmoral and Goroke schools are all off together next week on our Senior School Camp. This involves Year 11 and 12 students who will travel to Warrnambool and stay at Deakin University. Miss Hardwick and I will be attending the camp with the students. Pathways and study skills are the focus for the camp, which is onsite at the Warrnambool campus. Camps have not been able to be run over the last two years so this is an important and valuable trip for students as they near completion of their secondary schooling.

Year 7 Student/Parent/Teacher BBQ

On February the 23rd all year 7 students, their families and Year 7 teachers all congregated down at Henley Park as a touch base and social gathering. The brainchild of our Assistant Principal Chad Frost, it was a great initiative and well received by all, especially the students who demolished 10 kg of sausages and multiple fizzy refreshments. Parents were able to talk with staff and overall it was a great event which we will continue to run each year.

Equestrian Elective

Edwina Price is looking to start her equestrian elective next week 17/3. It will be on Friday’s and in lesson 6. Details will follow soon, this is exciting news for students. Initially it will involve students that have access to a horse and are members of the Apsley Pony Club. This is for insurance purposes.
