Principal's Report

Dear Parents,

As me move towards the end of term one we can now reflect back on what has been both a very busy, but also a very rewarding term, as we were able to start getting back to normal. It was so nice to see parents at both our Harmony Day Parade and at Kaboom recently.  Having parents join us at school is a vital part of the home school relationship and your experience and expertise is certainly welcomed.  Your next opportunity to join us is this week as we commemorate ANZAC Day tomorrow at 3pm.

As the actual day falls during the holidays, we thought it very important to acknowledge this day in advance. As such our student leaders can take us through a very moving commemoration. Well done in advance to our student leaders who have been rehearsing with Ms Wood for the past few weeks This is a very special and important day in the Australian calendar and one we as a community take very seriously.

Parents are most welcome to join us from 3pm on this day where we gather for assembly. Those in attendance must be double-vaccinated and have evidence of this.

In relation to our community, we will be holding our 2023 Enrolment Information Night as part of enrolment week on May 18. At 5:15pm on this night, prospective parents will be taken on tours by our student leaders whilst a a sausage sizzle provides a snack for us all. At 6pm the information night begins with teachers detailing all the wonderful things occurring at Mackellar Primary School. If you know of any parents with prep aged children for next year, please encourage them to attend.  Child minding will be available from TheirCare and all 2023 preps will receive a show-bag.

In the week following our information night, we will be holding our Education Week Expo for our current students and parents. On this night, we will be showcasing to parents the great work the students have been involved in to date. It will be a very interactive and hands-on evening led by the students in each grade. Please be sure to mark May 26th in your diary for this.

As often occurs at the end of terms, it is time to thank and farewell two staff members of Mackellar. We thank both Xavier Viola and Carla Doherty for their contribution to Mackellar Primary School.  Whilst both staff members have only been at Mackellar less than a year, they have certainly made a large and lasting contribution.  We wish them both well in their new positions at Brookside College and Cana Catholic Primary School.

As I sign off for this term, I would just like to wish all of those families who celebrate Easter a very enjoyable and special time. If the Easter bunny visits your house I hope he is generous with his Easter eggs and that it is a wonderful time for your family.  For others, I hope you have an enjoyable and relaxing break.  Please remember school finishes this Friday at 2:30pm with TheirCare available from this time for students booked in.

Take care over the break,

Simon McGlade
