End of Term

We did it! This Friday will mark the longest continuous time that we have spent in onsite learning since the start of 2020. I know that students and staff are certainly feeling very ready for the holidays! With the change in weather adding to general exhaustion there are lots of bugs around. Thank you for continuing to be vigilant with regard to Covid testing and keeping your child at home if they are unwell.

I hope that you and your family have a truly restful holiday that includes some family time. In the Hopkins house we are planning lots of downtime which usually includes 'pyjama days', lots of reading, games and cooking ... mixed in with some special treats and our favourite holiday pass time: camping. I can't wait to see you next term!

Parent-Teacher Interviews

Thank you to staff and parents who this week are spending their evenings talking about their favourite subject: the students! These interviews are an important part of our reporting process and it is a wonderful opportunity to hear about how your child has settled in and discuss their next learning goals. I hope that you find the process as rewarding as we do.

Lots of Socks

On Friday 18th March we celebrated Lots of Socks day - bringing awareness and understanding of World Down Syndrome Day. It was a nice spark in our week to see so many colourful and funny socks and all classes enjoyed learning about Down Syndrome and more importantly - valuing differences in our local and global community. Abi J in FD was even featured in the Down Syndrome Victoria newsletter for this term as part of their World Down Syndrome Day (Lots of Socks) article.  From sock-y maths to picture storybooks, discussions on diversity, and videos provided by Down Syndrome Victoria we all learned a lot and we are proud to announce that we raised over $900 for Down Syndrome Victoria. Thank you to our community for your generous donations.

New staff at Kalinda

It is my pleasure to introduce 2 more of our new staff here at Kalinda. They are already a vibrant and valued part of our team and we are so glad they are here!

Sam Martin - Education Support Staff (Integration Aide)

Hello, I am Samuel Martin.

I love working at Kalinda as an Education Support Staff member. My favourite part about my job here at Kalinda is getting to know students from different classes as well as working with a range of different teachers. I am in my final year of a Bachelor in Primary Education at Australian Catholic University. I can't wait to graduate and have a class of my own one day. My hobbies are fishing, soccer, and guitar which I manage to squeeze in most weekends.

Martina Medica - Library Technician

Hi, my name is Martina Medica, and I work in the beautiful Kalinda library. I have two kids at Kalinda, in grade 5 and grade 1, and I’m loving getting to know lots of new faces as all the classes come into the library each week. Books and reading are definitely one of my passions in life, along with music, writing, and cricket. Since I was a little girl I’ve said that my dream home would include a huge library – so I feel pretty lucky I get to work in one!
