WELLBEING
Term One is all about new beginnings, new books, laptops, uniform, lunch box or opening a new exercise book for the first time. For students this can sometimes be a time to start afresh or take a new approach in their learning.
As the weeks pass by the pages are filled with writing, the laptop becomes more familiar, students begin to get to know new teachers and each other as they navigate content and learning environments together. For some, this settling in period is quick and for others this can take time.
As we head into the first school holiday break it is helpful to use this time to stop and reflect on all the new experiences of Term One. Personal and collective reflection time is valuable and can be helpful for student wellbeing. Whether it be in the form of a conversation as you drive in the car, walking the dog or journaling in a notebook at the end of the day. It can be incidental yet intentional. Whatever the form, reflection can be a way to connect with your child/young person to encourage the idea that looking back can help you to look forward.
Whether you are a new St Andrew’s family or not, the Wellbeing team encourages this holiday period to be one of refreshment and reflection and a time to say, ‘You’ve done well, you’ve managed a lot!” We have noticed and affirm the resilience, kindness and inclusion seen by our students daily. As always, if further conversations are needed, please contact the Wellbeing team upon your return to school in Term Two.
