PERFORMING ARTS
2022 Update From Our Music Captain
Throughout Term 1, it has been a pleasure to see the Music Department flourish tremendously after two years of restrictions caused by COVID-19.
We have seen Secondary students busking in the cafe once a week, and everyone has enjoyed watching them showcase their God-given musical talents and performing them to the school. The busking performances have been quite an enjoyable activity for students to partake in, and I’m so excited to expand this opportunity to other students in the school!
We have also finally started musical rehearsals for ‘Singin’ in the Rain’. Each Tuesday afternoon I get to work with such a talented cast who always bring a positive and enlightening energy to rehearsals. The cast have been working so hard to learn everything, and I can’t wait for the school community to be able to watch their talents truly shine.
Additionally, we have seen the vocal program in our College continue to develop with our two Secondary vocal ensembles: our Vocal Ensemble with students from Year 9-12 and Vocal Project with students from Year 7-9.
It has been such an encouragement to see these two groups continue to progress and develop despite all the difficulties brought about from COVID, and I pray that they will continue to grow and improve throughout this semester. I’m extremely eager to see how the Music and Performing Arts Department will continue to thrive in Term 2!

Intermediate Band Day Camp
The Intermediate Band had a fabulous time at their band incursion last week! Students were able to rehearse in small groups with the expert support of our staff, and develop their ensemble skills. They had the opportunity to play alongside older students, and fine tune some challenging repertoire!
At the end of the day the students performed for our Year 1 students and staff, for their first performance of the year! We are so proud of the hard work the students put in and look forward to you hearing them play in the future!
New Piano
We are very grateful for the beautiful piano that has been donated to St Andrews Christian College by Dr Charles and Mrs Grace Karl, for the use of our Music program.
We are so thankful to the Lord for this generous gesture, and are grateful for the resources we have to support the success of our music students.
Pizzicato Strings
We are SO proud of pizzicato strings for their wonderful performance at our most recent assembly. It was wonderful to share this opportunity with the rest of the primary school and have them be a part of our very first performance as a group! The students did such an amazing job, and are looking forward to many more performances to come!
Melbourne Strings Ensemble
We are excited to have the following representatives from both primary and secondary years at St Andrews Christian College form part of a new MSE (Melbourne String Ensemble) project - Agnes Chiu (Yr 9), Marcus Chen (Yr 8), Evan Widjaja (Yr 8), Heidi Widjaja (Yr 6) and Serena Wang (Yr 5).
This project ‘fosters connections to local communities and culture’ and will be performing both classic and newly commissioned works at the end of this month. We would encourage anyone who is interested to purchase tickets and be a part of this special event. You can find out more information from the flyer below!
Secondary Worship Band
Hi Everyone! My name is Evangeline and I’m the 2022 Captain for the Secondary Worship Band. You may have seen us playing at assembly a few times, and if you didn’t already know, we practise every lunchtime on Mondays, performing 2-3 times a term.
I think this ensemble is truly special as we get to come together and worship God. We do a variety of worship songs, and it has been really great to see everyone from Year 7-12 bringing their gifts and using it to glorify God’s name.
If you’re interested in joining the band, please don’t hesitate to join us Mondays at lunch.

Year 12 Production - Pirates of Penzance Jnr.
The Pirates of Penzance set sail in fabulous fashion as the Year 12 Theatre Studies Class worked hard on their Unit 3 Production and wowed audiences this past week. This classic musical by Gilbert & Sullivan was full of swashbuckling pirates and dancing damsels, with plenty of laughs along the way.
Well done to all our students for their amazing efforts to pull off a wonderful show.

Singin' In The Rain
Rehearsals for our Secondary School musical production are underway, and we are having a great time making theatre together! There are approx. 60 students in the cast, with others involved learning instrumental parts, and designing set and props.
The process of putting a show together teaches students so many skills – artistic skills certainly, but also skills in organisation, perseverance, teamwork, lateral thinking and observation.
It is such a pleasure to be involved with seeing the cast develop skills and friendships and to craft this musical together. We will be presenting the show in August this year.
