Habits Reporting
At St Bede’s College we are continually working to align practices across the school both within and outside the classroom. As part of this, identifying in-class habits, behaviours and dispositions that require change (as they are not beneficial) or reinforcement (as they maximise learning opportunities) provides greater clarity around expectations and desirable behaviours. In support of this process, all teachers have recently completed their Term 1 reporting on learning habits. The results of individual teacher judgments are made available immediately via PAM (the parent access module), as well as being collated in a downloadable PDF in the near future. Parents will be notified when this is available; it too will be on PAM.
Reporting on such habits presents a great opportunity to open dialogue with students regarding what habits, behaviours and dispositions are most conducive to effective learning. Importantly, they endeavour to reinforce that learning is an active process; it takes time, effort, deliberate practice, reflection and collaboration if it is to be maximised. The learning habits reporting is an attempt to embed this active approach and make it part of the learning culture here at St Bede’s College, with the rubric being reviewed mid-year.
Once the results have been accessed, we encourage conversations as a family that both reinforce the positive habits identified, as well as look for areas in which to improve. Learning presents as a way to continually grow for all of us; with a future as uncertain and unpredictable as it is, it is a necessary skill. We at St Bede’s College will continue to work with all families to ensure that learning within a formal context is as effective as it can be both now and into the future, and look forward to working closely with families in order for this to occur.
2021 Awards Presentation Evening
The evening of Monday, March 28th saw the 2021 Awards Presentation evening go ahead after its postponement from earlier in the year. The evening presented an opportunity to recognise the academic and co-curricular achievements of students in 2021. Additionally, the evening was the first time that student achievement from both campuses in these areas has been recognised at the one event.
On the evening, we were treated to a performance of ‘One For Mum’ on Alto Saxophone by College Music Captain Max Hutson. He was accompanied by College Accompanist Catherine Attard. As always, and in light of the current climate, it was so fortunate to have families attend, bringing back that strong sense of community that the College has in recognising these great achievements.
Those presented on the night are indicated below. We congratulate one and all on their achievements, recognising that the past couple of years have been particularly challenging. We also encourage all students within the College to continue to aim high. As an inclusive school, we recognise the many forms of what is one’s personal best and look forward to celebrating these achievements in an ongoing fashion.
