Parish School Education Board

Board Meeting 21 July, 2020

The St John’s School Board facilitated another meeting via google meet this month. It was disappointing to be back to remote meetings but still a good opportunity to check in on how things are going back at school for a very different, yet the same, Term Three.

The staff have worked tirelessly to provide the highest quality home learning experience for our children and we all appreciated the opportunity to hear how they went about their planning, including incorporating feedback from parents and caregivers from term two. We were also fortunate to have a presentation by Naomi Ryan as writing coach on the pedagogical framework for writing at St John’s. The use of “Bump it Up Walls” has become a familiar term among the students and the benefits to using this strategy were demonstrated. We thank Naomi for her time and wish her all the very best as she embarks on her next journey!

We were pleased to have an update on proposed building works and that a new design has been submitted to Council for approval. As most would be aware, the new design does not incorporate any changes to the current basketball court and grassed area, however it does include a new court where the current netball court is located as well as landscaping throughout the playground, space between the school and the Parish Hall, changes to the staff room and facade. Importantly there will be improved security with new gates.

It is a very challenging time for all within the school community at the moment, and we can all be reassured that our staff at St John’s are doing an exceptional job of supporting our students. If anyone is needing additional support, please do not hesitate to reach out and ask! Stay safe and take care of yourselves.
