Message from College Council President

Farewell to Eva McMaster

Today we say farewell to a wonderful principal and leader, Mrs Eva McMaster.

Eva joined us at DSC in 2011 and very quickly adapted to life at the College. I joined her on School Council in 2012 and became president in 2013. I have had the privilege of working in partnership with her for eight years now and have had the most amazing insight into the kind of leader she truly is.

As President, I have travelled with Eva through the highs and lows, and it has been in these times of lows that her strength and compassion have shone through.  We have been so lucky to have her as a great role model to our students and more specifically to our daughters. She is the epitome of strong leadership with kindness and empathy.

She has steered the school to a strong financial position, and has overseen the development of some amazing initiatives, such as the stadium, the soccer pitch, the solar installation and the current new year 7 wing. And in these last few months of uncertainty and turmoil, she even found time to handwrite cards to all staff to check in on their welfare through the first lockdown.

But her true love has always been the students. She beams with pride whenever she receives good news about their success and her reactions would always be as if they were her own flesh and blood. Every child at DSC was known and loved by Eva and that is a very unique trait not many principals possess.

On a personal note, I have found her to be an exceptional colleague on School Council and so open and transparent, but most importantly, always open to parental feedback, which is why our Council process is so amicable and effective.

Probably the only chink in her armour is her choice of football team, so that just shows us that she is almost (not quite) perfect!

Eva, on behalf of the entire DSC family, I would like to formally thank you for a tremendous 10 years of service. Good luck on your next appointment and please come back and visit us from time to time.

I would also like to endorse Mr Glenn Morris who will be Acting Principal for the remainder of the year. I have had the privilege of working with Glenn on many sub committees and on Council, and I believe he will be a great successor for Eva until a permanent replacement can be appointed.

It must be such a thrill for Glenn to now be principal of a school where he once attended as a student many years ago! Congratulations Glenn!
