Week 4 Update

Well, it just seems like we cannot take a trick at the moment when it comes to Saturday sport. There always seems to be something preventing us from getting out on the field. Hopefully with some good sunshine from last weekend and early this week, all the fields will have had the opportunity to dry out so that we can get everyone out playing this weekend. I would like to thank all the coaches, parents/carers and players for their patience, resilience, and continued enthusiasm as we battle through this rough patch of weather.

In last week’s Especean, I mentioned that the changes in teams would begin at the end of that week (Week 3) and into Week 4. Unfortunately, the poor weather hindered this process. This week there will be changes to a number of teams. The aim of these changes is to place boys in teams more suited to their skill level and in doing so, even out the IPSHA competition. This will allow all boys to be challenged and grow as players. I appreciate that this will no doubt be disappointing for some of the boys. I am happy to discuss with them the reasons for movements and would encourage those boys to come and see me at my office or to email me at on john.locke@spc.nsw.edu.au.

A reminder for all boys about their training attire. Saturday playing attire should not be worn to training of an afternoon. This is to ensure that it is ready for the weekend. Boys are permitted to wear their College sport uniform (house shirt or Supporter’s shirt) to training. However, boys training in AFL and Rugby should be wearing a jersey (guernsey in AFL) to training in preparation for contact work.

Recently we have had a number of boys attend representative Rugby League and Union trials. Congratulations to Raphael Cipollone and Kaylan Qutami on their selection into the CIS Rugby League side. Also, to Seamus O’Connell for his selection into the shadow squad, replacing any injured players leading into the NSWCIS Rugby League carnival. We wish you all the best for the upcoming tournament. A number of Year 6 boys have also moved through the IPSHA pre-trial process for selection into the CIS Rugby Union trials. We look forward to hearing of these boys’ successes next week.

The annual Junior School House Athletics Carnival will be held on Thursday 23 June (Week 9), on Breen Oval. In preparation for this carnival, boys will be asked shortly to sign up to trial for field and track events. This information will be placed in the daily announcements, and boys should listen carefully to the announcements over the coming days. There will be more information available regarding the Athletics Carnival as we get closer to the date.

I look forward to seeing all the Junior teams out on the fields this weekend.
