New Parents Dinner - What a Night!

By Janet Nyhouse (Community Engagement Manager)

"What a stylish restaurant!"
"This food is amazing!"
"I love this room!"
"What a lovely atmosphere!"
"Oooo - pretty!"
"I've never tasted Duck like this before!"
"What professional wait staff!"

These are just some of the comments overheard from our guests at Friday night's New Parent Dinner.

It was such a privilege to host so many parents brand new to BHCS and give them their first taste (literally) of our famous hospitable and generous culture.

Parents were seated by year level for the evening to enjoy the company of their children's teachers and classmates' parents. We were treated to a stunning three-course menu designed, prepared and served by our VET Hospitality class, under the incredible leadership of their teacher and Chef, Mr Booth. It certainly was five-star.

Our Principal, Peter Cliffe took the opportunity to introduce himself and share his heart for serving at our beautiful school. He also gave us a sneak peek at some impressive new development plans for BHCS! Oooooo - exciting!

The energetic chatter and cross-table engagement created a truly warm and relational atmosphere. We were enormously encouraged and thrilled to host and mingle with parents once again. And, if the conversation is anything to go by - we're in for a fun ride with this enthusiastic wave of new parents at BHCS! I simply can't wait.

Thank you to every parent who attended - it was our pleasure to host you.

Thank you to Mr Booth and his incredible team of Chefs-in-training.

Thank you to Mrs Scampton for leading the front-of-House team so elegantly.

VSAC Swimming

By Caleb Lobbe (Senior Sports Coordinator)

Last Monday, 5 students travelled with Mr Lobbe and Mr Seskis to the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) to represent CSEN, in swimming races against many other School Sports networks.

We left at lunchtime and travelled as a team in the school van. When we arrived the students received their CSEN representative polo shirt and swimming cap and wore them with pride!

Throughout the evening, each one of our students represented our school so well. The individual results did not necessarily go our way, however, we are so proud of our students.

It is an amazing achievement to be selected to represent CSEN at the VSAC championships at MSAC. The students were racing against some of the strongest swimmers in their age group in Victoria and potentially the country.

Congratulations to Isaac S, Stephen G, Kailyn V, Hannah G and Zane Z who all represented us so well on the night. Congratulations also to Nicholas F, who was also selected in the team, however, unable to attend on the evening.

We finished the night by visiting Maccas on the way home, sharing a well deserved family dinner box!

CSEN Theatresports

By Leah Nicholls (Drama Teacher)

Last Friday, Year 9 and Year 12 drama students made up 2 teams to compete in CSEN Theatresports. This is the 10th year that the competition has been running and BHCS has competed in each one.

The day started with a special visit from ex-student Liam H who had been in many winning teams over the years - the Senior team honoured his legacy by dressing up as him for competition day!

Once we arrived at St Andrew’s it was great to see students get straight into mixing with other schools - introducing themselves, talking about Drama and sharing their love of theatre.

Across the three rounds, made up of one, two and three minute improvisation games, students cheered one another on - both their own schools and their competitors.

There was a great atmosphere and everyone was there to celebrate their love of performing.

The BHCS Senior team placed first while the Junior team finished second - just one point behind the first place getters!

There were incredible displays of creativity and quick thinking but more than anything it was the united sense of celebration that makes the day what it is. One student reflected on the way home that it wasn’t like a sport competition where you feel you’re competing against an opposition - instead you’re cheering on every team, wanting them to succeed, laughing with them, learning from them and having a heap of fun.

A special shout out to Chloe R who has competed in Theatresports every year since she was in Year 7! She has been in many winning Theatresports and Play in a Day teams. Well done Chloe - thank you for your amazing contribution!
