From the School Council President

Hello all,

I am pleased to be elected School Council President for 2022.

Our family has been at The Lakes Primary Campus since 2018, with my daughter in Year 4 and my son in Year 1. We chose the school over others because of the attention given to student’s individual learning needs, the unique blend of both traditional classroom and open learning methods and small class sizes. I am passionate about giving our students as many learning and leadership opportunities as possible and value The Lakes’ commitment to improving educational outcomes for every student.

School Councils play an important part in Victorian schools. Our School Council is made up of parent representatives, teachers, students, and the Leadership Team.

The top functions of The Lakes South Morang College’s School Council include:

  • Acting as a conduit regarding school issues and policies between the parent community and the School’s Leadership Team;
  • Approving the school’s budget and monitoring expenditure;
  • Approving general school and education policies;
  • Overseeing and making recommendations regarding the maintenance of the school buildings, grounds and cleaning;
  • Overseeing the hire and shared use of the school’s facilities; and
  • Overseeing the outside school hours care service.

A focus for School Council this year is school pride – ensuring our common spaces are freshened up, exploring new ways to make community connections and re-engaging our school community. We will also be commencing a new four-year Strategic Plan.

Following on from that, one of the roles as School Council President is to be an advocate on school issues and ensure the school council stays focused on improving student outcomes. If you have any issues, ideas, questions that you would like raised at our next Council meeting, or any other support, we are more than happy to hear from families so please feel free to send me an email to amanda.farrelly@education.vic.gov.au.

Cheers,

Amanda Farrelly
