In our classroom
It has been an eventful last couple of weeks here in P.E. With the upcoming Winter Gala Day for our grade fives and sixes as well as the Hobson's Bay Divisional Cross Country Meet at Presidents Park, our students have been training hard and are excited to have the opportunity to represent our school. We say goodbye to Mr Symmons who is leaving the P.E department and moving into the secondary setting.
Over the last two weeks in P.E our preps have been learning about catching as well as rolling. Our preps have been exploring catching using various balls such as small gator skin balls, large gator skin balls, tennis balls and bean bags. Our preps have also begun learning how to roll a ball, using stumps and other objects to target.
Over the last two weeks our grade ones and tows, threes and fours finished their unit on dribbling. All the teachers were quite impressed with how well the students were able to grasp the concept and master the skills involved. Students were awarded badges on their schoolbox page to show their progress.
Students in grades five and six have continued learning about the various skills and rules associated with basketball. Our students have been focusing on the skills of ‘passing’ and ‘shooting’ and have been playing various games such ‘knockout’, ‘elimination’, ‘piggy in the middle’ etc.
I would like to introduce myself, my name is Doreen Tzivanidis and I will be working in the PE department, taking over from Matt Symmons. I have a passion for sport, especially soccer. I played soccer for 10 years. I have done lots of CRT work in the past couple of years but happy to be part of the team at Saltwater P-9 College. I have a new baby boy (who is 2 months old) who I adore. I look forward to working with the students.
