Dear Year Four Families,
We can't believe week six is already here! When you're having fun, time flies, and we're having a lot of fun this term in Year Four.
Westgate Kids!
Year Four pupils participated in The Westgate Tunnel Project's Westgate Kids incursion to conclude UOI2. The students were transformed into urban planners and were required to follow each step of the planning process. Their mission was to create a city for Victoria's rising population. Everyone had a terrific time, and it was a positive experience for everyone.
Inquiry
We've started our third unit of inquiry with the central idea of 'Health messages and ideas can be communicated through the community,' which we're quite excited about.
The following are the lines of inquiry:
• Community health services
• Promotion of health messages throughout the world
Reading
The focus in reading has been on comprehension strategies. The Year Four students have been focusing on developing their own questions in response to a text. This enables them to comprehend what they are reading and decipher the text's deeper meaning.
Writing
In writing, we've completed our unit on journalistic texts and are now looking into advertising. Students took part in tasks that required them to compare and assess characteristics of advertisements. This lesson went off without a hitch because it was well-integrated with journalistic texts.
Mathematics
Students are now divided into fluid math groups that revolve around the topic of money during math class. This enables all students to have a targeted learning strategy in which each activity is differentiated based on their individual learning needs. Our exploration of location is now complete, and we are moving on to the topic of data representation. We'll investigate this by using data in a variety of formats, including bar graphs, pie graphs, and those ready for a challenge, percentages in their graphs!
