Students in Years Five and Six are completing a unit on Computer Aided Design (CAD) and 3D printing. It has been fantastic to see students improve their visual spatial reasoning, sequencing skills, and understanding of measurement and geometry.
"I loved how you could make so many different things and import things you want in your design. I learnt you could use the negative space shapes to cut out different part of your design. You just grab a shape, press the ‘hole’ button, drag it to where you want it to cut out and group them together!
This term, us Year 5s were creating different designs to 3D print out. In the first lesson, we created a word statue. In the second lesson, we created a key chain/bag tag. In the third lesson, a silhouette and the last we imported a picture.
Overall, I had a really great time creating these things and I want to thank Miss Fowler for creating such an awesome project for us!"
Thank you to all of the students and parents who have shown interest in the Victorian Coding Challenge. Year Five and Six participants will soon receive their login details for this coding extension opportunity.
If you are interested in participating, it's not too late! Email gemma.fowler@education.vic.gov.au with your details (student name, class and School Box username) and I will organise registration.
