Safety in the Kiss and Drop-off Zone

We understand that the drop-off and pick-up times can be stressful for families with busy schedules and work commitments. However, it is crucial for us to collaborate and ensure that pick up and drop off is conducted in a safe and efficient manner.

In order to achieve this, we kindly request everyone to adhere to the following road safety procedures when dropping off or picking up their children. As a school, we are committed to supporting good practices by actively supervising children and providing assistance when needed.

Here are some guidelines for parents/carers to follow:

1.   Stay alert and be aware of your surroundings. Pay attention to street signs, the number of cars behind you, and children entering or exiting vehicles. Also, be mindful of opening car doors safely. It is essential to show respect for others, as everyone shares the common goal of getting their child to school on time. Understanding and patience are key, but it is expected that we are considerate of one another.

2.   The Kiss and Drop Zone is specifically designed for quick and efficient drop off and pick up. If you are unable to adhere to this, we kindly request that you utilize an alternative parking solution.

3. We urge parents to refrain from dropping off their children at the No Standing Zone on Elata Street. This area has a traffic island in the middle of the road, preventing cars from overtaking and causing congestion as they exit the Kiss and Drop Zone. Additionally, traffic turning right from Cerberus Street into Elata is also affected by this congestion.

4. The designated staff parking spots are reserved for a reason, so we kindly ask parents not to use them, even if they are vacant. Visitor spots are intended for those planning to stay at the school, rather than for drop-off purposes.

Please note that there is ample parking available at the back of DISC. You can easily park there and accompany or observe your child as they make their way to their respective lineup areas. This can be particularly helpful on rainy days when we have inclement weather.

As staff members, we are committed to ensuring the safety of all students during drop-off and pick-up. A designated staff member will be easily identifiable by wearing a coloured vest. Their role is to assist families and students in safely exiting the car on the footpath side.

Please be aware that some families have car seats installed on the left-hand side of their vehicles, which may hinder exiting from that side. In such cases, a parent or staff member will be present to supervise and provide assistance. We kindly ask for your patience in these situations.

By following these road safety procedures and working together, we can ensure a smooth and secure drop-off and pick-up experience for all families. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding
