Principal's Report

Mrs Larissa Vesdrevanis

Firstly, I would like to commend our incredible Matildas on their journey to the semi-finals of the World Cup. Although they didn't emerge as champions, they are still winners in our hearts. They have captured the nation's admiration and elevated the status of Australian women's soccer worldwide. Most importantly, they serve as role models for both girls and boys, exemplifying determination, hard work, and perseverance in pursuit of their goals. Together, they have made history, surpassing any other Australian football team, regardless of gender, in a World Cup. Let's proudly show our support for the Matildas by donning the Green and Gold.

Speaking of determination, grit, and hard work, our very own Lachlan Martin-Vashenko has successfully qualified for the Victorian Team in Taekwondo Martial Arts, earning a well-deserved silver medal. He will now represent Victoria in his division at the National competition, where he will face off against the best fighters from every other state. Given the nature of the competition, it's a sudden-death knockout format there is a lot at stake as an entire year of training and preparation culminates in a fight consisting of 3 x 60-second rounds. To win the gold, a total of 5 fights are required. Over the next two months, Lachlan will be heavily involved in training, attending classes, and receiving coaching. It's worth noting that Lachlan has an impressive record, winning 13 out of his last 15 fights. Interestingly, he lost both times to the same opponent, who happens to be the current Victorian champion.

Lachlan, your Donvale Family is fully supportive of you throughout this journey! We want to acknowledge your extraordinary effort and the discipline it takes to reach such a high level in competitive sports. We eagerly anticipate hearing about your experiences in the National Competition.

Since 1945, the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has been fostering a connection between children and books through Children's Book Week®. This year's theme is READ, GROW, INSPIRE  we have many exciting Book Week activities planned and I encourage everyone to actively participate in all activities and competitions. I am looking forward to our Book Week Parade on Tuesday the 22nd of August which we hope to hold outside on the basketball court weather permitting. Please stay tuned for a Compass Newsfeed confirming the location.

I also want to extend a special thank you to everyone involved in organising the upcoming Book Week celebrations. A special thank you to Miss Anita Flack and Mrs Sarah Hodgson for their work with Book Week.

This annual event not only celebrates the magic of books but also highlights the importance of reading and storytelling in shaping young minds. I encourage everyone to actively participate in the planned activities and competitions, as we embark on a journey through the pages of imagination and discovery.

Thank you for your continued dedication and enthusiasm. I look forward to another week of growth, learning, and shared achievements.
