SAINTS BOARDING

News from Brett Toombs

Director of Boarding

Exeat Weekend Information

It is an exeat weekend in boarding, but I want to clarify that this Monday 14 August is only a student-free day at St Augustine’s, not at St Monica's where  several activities will take place, such as camps and retreats. Therefore, girls boarding will reopen at 3pm on Sunday, August 13. If girls are flying back on the Sunday and arrive earlier due to flight schedules, transport and staffing will be available.

Boys residences will reopen at 3pm on Monday 14 August. If students are flying back to Cairns earlier that day because of flight availability, arrangements can be made, if necessary, to pick them up. I reiterate that the boys residences will not be open on Sunday night.

Can families please email return flight itineraries to respective Heads of Residence.

Weekends in Boarding

Three times each term boarders can submit leave requests to stay with approved families and friends for the weekend. On our other normal weekends we rely on all boarders to stay in. Heads of Residence and I certainly understand that sometimes family situations arise requiring boarders to be out at specific times during these weekends. However, apart from such situations, boarders are  expected to be in residence outside of free and exeat weekends.

Torei Gakuen High School Visit

We recently welcomed 25 students from Torei Gakuen High School, Japan for a 12-day stay in Cairns. They have experienced a variety of planned activities while here. The students and staff stayed in a boarding residence and took part in the different activities offered to our boarders.

Sunday Night Boarders Mass

It is pleasing to welcome back Fr Laurie this semester to lead our boarding Masses. Sunday night Mass (or liturgy when no priest is available)  is compulsory for all boarders who must be back in residence by 5:45pm.
