The Music Department's New Home

The department has finally moved into its new home. We are now over at Lavalla on the ground floor. The facilities are lovely and very high tech with a recording studio and equipment. It’ll be a fantastic home for the students and teachers to work in.

Opera Australia Workshops and Excursion

The Years 7, 8 and 12 choir students attended a workshop facilitated by Opera Australia last Friday. The choir worked with the ladies from St Monica’s to develop their feature piece for SMC Live at the end of term. Jonathon Ham brought out some wonderful singing from the students and there was some fine music made. At the end of the choir workshop, two students sang and workshopped individually. 

The following evening, Years 10, 11 and 12 saw The Barber of Seville performed by Opera Australia at CPAC. The production was magnificent and it was a fantastic opportunity for our students to be exposed to music they wouldn’t ordinarily choose to see. They thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

State Honours Ensemble Program

SHEP Middle School was held at St Mary’s and run by the Queensland Conservatorium of Music from 4 to 6 August. Students rehearsed in ensembles and performed in a concert on Sunday afternoon. Elliot Kendall, Oliver Alden and Charlie Chenery represented Saints at SHEP and had a wonderful experience with students from around the region. Congratulations gents!

2024 College Musical -- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

We have just announced the next musical to be staged by the College. Expressions of interest have been called for leads, ensemble cast, orchestra and backstage crew. The EOI form is on the College Portal under Announcements. Notifications of auditions and information packages will be out shortly. Rehearsals for leads commence in Term 4 during Wednesday sport at Saints. Rehearsals for the full cast will begin in Week 2 of 2024. More information to follow.

Combined Colleges Ensemble Evening

Our annual Combined Colleges Ensemble Evening is on again on Thursday 31 August at 7pm. Our wonderful Hospitality Department will provide light meals from 6pm. Tickets are available from Trybooking at https://www.trybooking.com/CKNVL. Please keep an eye out for more details on Parent Slips.

Lost!

Four guitars have been left in the music storeroom since Term 2, and if these are not claimed by the end of Week 6, we will sell them. We have constantly advertised this information on homeroom notices and at Monday assembly. They are pictured below:

Students can apply for a Spirit of Arts Award at any time. Please see the arts staff for an application and information booklet.

Events Calendar

We have an extremely busy calendar in Term 3. Please regularly check parent slips and keep the dates below in your diaries. We have everything from workshops and excursions to major music nights happening. It’s very exciting to be able to offer so many performance and workshop activities to our students to develop and grow their craft.
