From the Library

Book Week is almost here!

CBCA Book Week is Read, Grow, Inspire.

Book Week is a chance to celebrate books in the lives of individuals, our collective world and in libraries. It also marks the announcement of the Book of the Year awards by the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA).  The theme for this year’s CBCA Book Week is Read, Grow, Inspire.

At Emmaus Christian College, it also a chance to have fun from ELC through to Year 12 - with literature at the heart of the celebration. The world of books and words is always fun!

So that our entire community can join in the fun, we will be having Book Week dress up day!

Book Week Dress Up Day

Students and Staff of all ages are invited to dress up as their favourite book character and support the Pitjantjatjara Bible Bike Ride fundraiser with a gold coin donation.

South Plympton Campus F - 12 Dress Up Day: Week 5, Thursday 24 August

Brooklyn Park Campus ELC - 6 Dress Up Day: Week 5 Friday 25 August

Dress up Guidelines:

  1. Dress up as an identifiable book character - we encourage students to bring the book or a copy of the cover with them on the day.
  2. Normal casual day school guidelines apply
  3. Be creative with your costumes. We encourage you to make your costumes at home using items you already have around the house. You don’t need to spend a lot of money on costumes.

Other Book Week Events in Week 5

Our ELC to Year 6 students at both campuses will also have a performance for Book Week during their Week 4 Assembly times by Perform! Education.

In the true spirit of Read, Grow, Inspire….the celebration of books will take place over the whole week. Each day will be a new page, a new setting and a new opportunity to consider the place that books have in our world.

Both campus libraries will have lunchtime activities for students in a setting that will be surrounded by books that are waiting to be read.

In something new there will also be Homegroup challenges that celebrate books and reading throughout the week.

We look forward to a fun week promoting literature and the love of reading.
