Students in VET

This year we have many students engaging in the hands-on learning of VET, and we celebrate the diverse industry and opportunities these students are given. One of the most rewarding components for VET studies is being on the job when completing placement.

Here are some photos of some of our current VET students who participated in placement during the holidays:

VET Information Night

It is with pleasure that I announce we are holding a dedicated Vocational Education & Training (VET) Information Night for Year 10 and 11 Students.

Date: Thursday 24 August (Week 5)

Time: 7pm

Location: Emmaus Performing Arts Centre (EPAC)

Upon Arrival: Please help yourself to a complimentary hot drink from the coffee van and make your way to a seat in the EPAC.

This evening is targeted to Year 10 and 11 students to explore if VET study may be appropriate for them at some stage in their learning journey. These students are not looking at a university pathway directly post-school but have a focus on employability skills in the VET space. This evening will provide opportunities for students (and parents) to investigate VET in Schools options and future career pathways exclusive to the VET space.

As such, interested families are invited to hear what's on offer for Senior Students and connect with VET industry representatives.

Landscape Architect Workshop

A small group of Year 9 - 11 students were invited to participate in a workshop with a Landscape Architect company to help create a beautiful outside space in our school. The purpose of this workshop was to ask for student ideas in regard to transforming current car park and asphalt spaces into wonderful areas for students to enjoy with our new build.

The workshop, conducted on Thursday in Week 1, was a very interesting process for the students to experience.  It provided them with valuable insights into the essential attributes of well-designed outdoor spaces and how to individualise what will be a significant new area for Emmaus students of the South Plympton Master Plan. There were some great ideas that incorporated both biodiversity and water sensitive urban design.

We also enjoyed a lovely morning tea (that included too many donuts), but best of all, was the student voice in creating a beautiful future outside space at Emmaus.

The Resilience Project

In the final part of The Resilience Project's parent series, Hugh shares an important message about allowing our children to experience adversity.

The key to building resilience in our children is allowing them to experience failure, hardship, disappointment etc. As parents, we can be too quick to resolve our children's challenges which can deprive our children of enormous growth opportunities. These typically happen when we experience failure and uncertainty. As parents we should be there for our children when they fail, but not fight their battles for them.

Thank you for participating in this Parent and Carer Digital Presentation series.

You can re-watch the videos and access activities and resources anytime via the Parent & Carer Hub.
