Respectful Relationships & Wellbeing News

Simon Brown - Wellbeing Leader

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,

We are excited to share with you the news that our school has been recognised as a "Lighthouse School in Respectful Relationships." This achievement is an honour! It is worth mentioning that we are the first Catholic school in the state to be selected as a lighthouse school and this is something that we are really proud of.

Since the 2016 Royal Commission Restpectful Relationships is now mandated in all schools. It has been a collective effort from our whole community, from our staff, to the unwavering support of our parents and guardians and not forgetting the commitment of our wonderful students.

We strive to make our Sacred Heart community a safer place for all students. By teaching the eight different topics, we educate our students from Prep to Year 6 on how to build respectful relationships. On Tuesday, July 26th we hosted a meeting and were delighted to welcome other Catholic schools from near and far to join us in commemorating this special achievement. This meeting provided us with an opportunity to learn from and inspire others and collectively explore new ideas to strengthen the foundation of Respectful Relationships in our community.

We are lucky to have a very special relationship with Paul Zappa, the leader of the Respectful Relationships Program. Paul regularly visits our school to provide guidance and support to teachers, therefore making the well being  program here at Sacred Heart the best that it can be.

Respectful Relationships Program in Action

"Miss McKay was on duty on Monday, where she witnessed a group of Grade 2 boys in the middle of a soccer match that could have been a World Cup final; it was very competitive and intense but being played in great spirit. With minutes to go before lunch, the boys' ball flew out of bounds and knocked over a tower that a group of Grade 1 girls had been building. Without a second's thought, the boys all ran over to check if the girls were okay and helped repair the tower before restarting their game."

Congratulations to the year 2 students and their teachers, Miss Donnelly and Miss Prosser for the work they are doing in this space.
