There is always a lot to celebrate at Sacred Heart!
Dear Parents and families,
There have certainly been some highlights around Sacred Heart over the past few weeks. As I've shown families around and wondered through the school, it is always wonderful to see our structured literacy program in place with focussed and engaged learners. This shows a real sense of a learning community amongst our classes. The opportunities our students have beyond the classroom is also something to celebrate. Over the past fortnight, the year 3 students went on an excursion to Scienceworks and the 5/6 and 3/4 students represented Sacred Heart at Hoop Time. This is certainly a highlight in the school calendar for our budding basketballers. Congratulations to all the teams that have got through to the next stage of competition.
Classroom visits
I've been fortunate to have the opportunity to teach in year 1 and year 6 lately. It is always a pleasure to teach and see students involved in their learning. The Year 6's are doing an incredible job with their Debating practise and they are becoming very confident during their public speaking course, amazing skills for the future. Their reading fluency skills are also really improving as they read about asteroids, planets and meteors which is linked to their Topic work. The year 1 students blew me away with their organised and structured literacy block. They were teaching me when and where they did each stage of the literacy program. Their decoding (reading) and encoding (writing) was amazing. Just see the proud looks on their faces.
Peter Pan
Our school production is in full swing as we hear Mr Coutts teaching the items of our school production each Tuesday and Wednesday. The singing and music is just beautiful so something to look forward to. I really enjoyed watching the Year 4 's doing an extraordinary job as mermaids and warriors this week. The lead characters are also doing an incredible job learning their lines and learning the staging for each scence. Thanks to Mr Thiessens and Miss Rafferty for supporting the lunchtime rehearsals. Thanks to the parents who have volunteered to be Costume co-ordinators for their child's class. Costume details will be sent out soon.
100 Days of Prep
What a delight it was to celebrate the 100 days of school with our Prep students yesterday. This is an incredibly important and exciting milestone for our youngest students. A huge thankyou to Miss Maloney for all her organsiation of all the fun activities the preps were involved in today. The counting activities and the fairy bread with 100 and 1000's was a hit! They even partcipated in 100 sports activities with their Yr 5 buddies. Thanks to all the parents for your preparation of our 'old' people, the 100 year olds look fantastic. What a memorable day for our Preps celebrating 100 days of school!
