School Captains Report

Welcome back to what is going to be a fun jam-packed Term 3!

Last week we had math week. Math Week is a week to celebrate all things maths, where classes completed a series of competitions such as; the math worksheet challenge, the jellybean contest and the richest class. The worksheet challenge involved putting our brains to the test to complete 11 math problems within a time limit. The two students with the most correct answers won an award at assembly. The jellybean contest tested our estimation skills! Each student got the opportunity to guess how many jellybeans are in the jar and the closest person won the whole jar! Amelia Smith in grade 2 was the winner with a guess of 378, only 7 off the exact amount! She shared with us that she felt very excited to win. Finally the richest class competition involved putting a value to each of our names. Each letter in the alphabet was assigned a numerical value, you then calculated the letters in your name and added it to your classes total. The winning classes were 4T and 2D. Congratulations!

Last Friday the 5/6’s had hoop time. Hoop time is where our Sacred Heart students go and verse other schools in basketball. This year we entered 3 all star teams and 5 future star teams, we did really well overall. Good job to all the students who tried their best and behaved well. Of those teams to enter, 2 All Star Teams will proceed into the second round. The year 3/4's had their hooptime this week. Their All Star girls managed to clinch the win in the grand final by one point. Good luck to all that made it to the second round. We look forward to hearing about the results.

This week brought a milestone for the Preps. It was their 100th day of school here at Sacred Heart. They celebrated by dressing up as 100 year olds, making fairy bread and having a class party. Well done preps, only six more years of primary school to go.

To the weekend and beyond!!!

Hoop Time Report

This term the years 3, 4, 5 and 6 have attended the Hoop Time Basketball Competition. Sacred Heart students represented the school proudly and gave their best efforts on the day.

The year 3s and 4s Hoop Time was on Thursday 27th July. The Year 4 All Star boys had a good day winning one game, drawing one game, and losing one game. Unfortunately they just missed out on finals by percentage despite their best efforts. They got so close but just missed out. Everybody had a fun time and worked hard. The Year 4 All Star girls competed in the first round of hooptime. They won all of their games including their semi final by a nail biting one point to get into the grand final. They won their grand final 7-8. These girls definitely deserved to win after all the energy and effort they put into it. The other teams put up some great fights and made some of the matches very intense to watch. Our Grade 3s and 4s showed great teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the day. They were really good at sharing the ball and letting everyone have a go at shooting but still had a lot of determination to win their games. We are so excited they got into the next round and can't wait and can’t wait to hear how they go.

Hoop time for the grade 5s and 6s was last week on Friday 21st July. The Year 5 boys won two games and unfortunately lost two games. They played well as a team but fell short of finals despite their efforts. They all had a fun day and enjoyed themselves. The Year 5 and 6 All Star Girls team managed to win every one of their games. They had so much fun and loved the experience. They won all of their games by a lot and were undefeated the whole time. They won the semi final by 8 points which got them into the grand final where they won by 6 points. They were such amazing games to watch and had us on the edge of our seats. The All Star girls showed great sportsmanship and there were no complaints at all. They worked so hard to get to the grand final and it was great to see them win. They're  gonna do fantastic in the next round and we wish them all the best.

The year 6 boys had an amazing run going undefeated. In their first game they beat St Mary's Hampton by one point. Then they went on to beat De La Salle by a big margin of 30 points. They continued this winning streak beating St Finbars, Galilee, and St Joan of Arc. This was enough to get them into the grand final. They came ready to play and were victorious, beating a different De La team. Everybody played a big role, showed great sportsmanship and were really happy to get the win. They got through to regionals and I'm sure they will do a great job.

Stay active,
