Co-curricular Arts News

Dr Andrew Butt, Program Leader Co-curricular Arts

Over the coming weeks we have several important events coming up for Performing Arts here at the College. Tomorrow evening Theatre Ash will present Murder on the Menu in our very own Draney Theatre, while on Sunday Big Band 1 and 2 will travel to Warwick to perform in the annual Jumpers and Jazz in July Festival. In addition to this, we have a variety of groups preparing for the upcoming Queensland Catholic Colleges Music Festival that will be held over the EKKA Break weekend. We wish all of the boys the best for these performances and are very appreciative of the support of our College Community for these important occasions.

DRAMA PERFORMANCE ‘Murder on the Menu’

Wednesday 26 July - 7:00pm | Draney Theatre

Artemis Ward, the proud owner of Ward Books, is murdered in his favourite restaurant while waiting for a mysterious dinner guest who never arrives. Everyone’s a suspect – his own son and daughter, his nephew, the restaurant owner, and many others who crawl out of the woodwork. Can the conveniently-placed coroner and his reporter friend solve the crime without the aid of the police? Why does the list of suspects just keep growing? All members of the Marist Community are invited to the Theatre Ash production of “Murder on the Menu” by Bill Hand. You might even win a prize for guessing “whodunnit”.

Jumpers and Jazz in July Festival – Warwick, QLD

Big Bands 1 and 2 have been invited back to the annual Warwick Jumpers and Jazz in July Festival once again this year. This performance opportunity will provide a great musical experience for students to play for the wider community as well as represent the College by showcasing the Music Department to prospective Boarding Communities. It is also a great honour to be one of the few schools being invited to perform in the main event. A letter has been sent home to all performing students with more detailed information.
