Principal's Message-

Amadeo Ferra

McClelland welcomes our Sister School visitors from Kariya Kita High School

It’s been an incredibly short week but we are happy to have had the opportunity to host the Principal and English Teacher along with 15 students from our sister school in Japan. In COG you will read a more detailed account of their short but action packed stay and thank all the teachers who planned and implemented a great week as well as families who hosted students in their home. We hope that lifelong friendships have been made between staff, students and families from McClelland and Kariya Kita.

Embracing a Distraction-Free Learning Environment: The Importance of the Mobile Phone Policy

Dear Parents and Students as we continue our journey of education at McClelland College, it is crucial to reflect upon the values and policies that contribute to a conducive and focused learning environment. One such policy, which has proven to be highly beneficial, is the prohibition of mobile phone use within the school grounds. While we understand the evolving technological landscape, we remain committed to upholding this policy for the greater wellbeing and academic success of our students.

Fostering Uninterrupted Learning:

Mobile phones, while undoubtedly powerful tools, can sometimes become a hindrance to the learning process and there is plenty of research that supports this. The presence of these devices in classrooms can lead to distractions, reducing the level of engagement and participation of students. By adhering to our mobile phone policy, we create an environment where students can fully immerse themselves in their studies, interact with their peers, and actively engage in discussions – all of which are vital components of effective learning.

Mitigating Cyberbullying and Ensuring Safety:

A significant concern associated with mobile phones is the potential for cyberbullying. By limiting the use of phones during school hours, we take a proactive stance against cyberbullying and ensure the emotional well-being of all our students. Our aim is to foster a safe and inclusive environment where everyone feels respected, valued, and free from any form of harassment.

Facilitating Effective Communication:

At McClelland, we prioritise clear and efficient communication channels between students, parents, and the school administration. Our policy encourages students to rely on the school's established communication methods when contacting their parents or guardians. This approach ensures that important messages are promptly delivered and received, and that students are well taken care of while at school.

Enhancing Social Interaction:

We believe in the importance of face-to-face social interaction, which plays a pivotal role in the development of essential interpersonal skills. By limiting the use of mobile phones, we encourage students to engage in meaningful conversations with their peers during breaks and free periods, fostering stronger connections and friendships.

Minimising Conflicts and Disruptions:

Our mobile phone policy aims to minimise conflicts and disruptions that can arise from students refusing to comply with staff instructions. This enables our teachers to focus on delivering high-quality lessons and providing personalised support to each student.

We kindly request the support of parents and guardians in reinforcing these principles at home. By encouraging your children to adhere to the mobile phone policy, you play a crucial role in creating a cohesive and successful learning environment that benefits everyone.

We understand that modern technology is an integral part of our lives, and we encourage responsible and mindful use of mobile phones outside of school hours. Let us work together to ensure that McClelland College remains a place of excellence, growth, and respectful engagement.

To assist the College in providing a safe, distraction free environment for our students, we ask that all communication between parents and students occurs through our College administration. If you need to speak to your child during the school day, we ask that you contact the College directly on 9789 4544.

Thank you for your continued partnership with the College.
