Auslan News
This week in Auslan:
* Grade Preps have been learning new signs for Family Members.
New signs to practise at home include: Mum, Dad, parents, sister, brother, baby, grandmother, grandfather, grandparents, aunty, uncle, cousin, boy, and girl.
Students have drawn family portraits and written about their families to sign the members of their family.
* Grades 1-4 have begun learning new signs for clothing, including:
Students in these grades are using the clothing signs to add to their weather reports, to suggest item/s of clothing to suit the season, weather and temperature.
The children are enjoying hanging the washing pictures on the mini-clothesline in the classroom to translate the items of clothing being signed.
(Some students need some more practise hanging washing at home and learning how to clip the clothes onto the line using pegs! Very good fine-motor skills! This might be an opportunity for parents/carers to have their children help to hang the washing on the line at home, and an opportunity to practise signing the clothing you are hanging together!!)
* Grade 5-6 have been learning signs to describe themselves in the topic About Me.
They are learning to sign about their favourite things. They have been learning to sign their eye colour and hair colour and style.
New signs include: My hair, curly, wavy, straight, long, short, fringe, colour, black, red, brown and blonde.
My eyes, brown, blue, green and hazel (hazel is fingerspelled.)
Grade 5-6s have also learned how to fingerspell the Months of the Year and then use these to sign when their birthday is in Auslan.
Our school leaders will be introducing some Auslan translations into our school assemblies in coming weeks, so keep an eye out for these talented young people at Assembly!!
